Howls came as an answer, but even the officers saw how the wolves only growled. They were even slowly stepping back as if afraid of the Divine Bride. As Milan glowed under the darkened sky, his white robes continued to frighten the wolves.

“Put me down?” A strange voice laughed in the air, making Milan look down at the water puddle in front of him. His very reflection reverted into a foreign visage, oozing with orange smoke. “How dare you think Lasair triumphed over me? Listen to me, you have no power over me, Divine Bride. You’re nothing but a crude reminder of my mistake.”

“Then I’ll gladly remind you once more.”

Milan dropped his arms and stomped at the water to disperse the reflection. He heard a faint bellow from the smoke wolf, and he saw how the huge wolves raced toward him from the back.
