Trapped in the Shadow of You

When the huge doors to the Bride’s Chamber opened, Florence saw Milan gathering more than the cassette player. He was rolling a long piece of fabric along his arms as if folding them. Milan realized she was there, so Florence walked up to him.

The brother flashed a smile at the sister. “Hey, how are you feeling now?”

“Nothing better.” Florence looked around the cloth chamber in the middle and at the painting of Lasair. “You look like you deserve all of this. I can’t imagine what it must feel like… having all of this pushed into your arms. Your mother must have been so worried.”

“She is. That is why she sent Davion and the others.” Milan walked toward the sister. “They’re leaving after the presentation day. If you need to say goodbyes to someone, I can ask him to accompany you.”
