Mental Struggle (Not really, though)

Deep in the mind of Darius Blackburn, lower class demons are currently attempting to turn him into one of them.

They have underestimated him due to his young age.

They have no idea that they are going to utterly fail.

MC POV

My eyes slowly started to open when they finally opened, I saw where I was.

This place was the Blackburn manor, and I saw my 'family' there. My parents looked at me with disgust.

"I should have drowned you, were born. I am ashamed to be your mother."

"Darius, you are nothing more than just a disappointment. You hurt your own brother, how could you."

Zack looked at me with disgust and anger. "I wish you just never existed. We were all happy before you were born."

"Why don't you do us all a favour and just kill yourself."

Billy and Evie just looked at me with sheer anger. Evie yelled out I HATE YOU!!!! to me, and Billy just said in an angry tone he hated me as well.

Then another voice caught my attention. It was my grandfather, and he looked at me with contempt.

"I was a fool, Darius. A fool to think you could have succeeded me, I was wrong. The others are right. You should never have existed."

This would make any normal child cry, but I was an adult in a kids body.

"Shut the fuck up, all of you are giving me a headache."

So this is the demon's attempt to turn me into one of them, I smirked and said with a bored tone.

"Your trick is not working on me, so show yourself will you. Unless you're scared of a small child."

The world around began to disappear, and I began to hear voices.

"Well, well, it seems we can't corrupt this boy."

"Whatever shall we do."

"What's this, I can't read his mind at all. He has mental shields that are strengthened by his willpower."

The voices sounded quite child like, but demonic.

"Are you going to show yourself or not."

There was silence for a while, almost as if the voices were thinking. A few minutes passed, and a figure appeared.

This figure had red skin with horns on his head and had glowing orange eyes.

"Hello child, I am a lower class demon, and my name is -"

"Wait, I have a question."

The Demon raised his eyebrow, "Ask away child."

"Would my Psionic Powers work on you on my level? For example, if I were to push you with Psychokinesis, would that work?

"Why, yes, it would work, as I'm a weaker demon, and you are gifted psionic despite your age. Wait, why do you ACK!!!"

The demon was lifted up and choked by yours truly, with Psychokinesis.

"BROTHER!!!!"

Another demon appeared that looked exactly like the one I am choking through telekinesis.

I then raised my other hand and shot an array of force lightning at him. The demon began to scream in pain.

"OKAY, STOP, STOP, PLEASE STOP. IF YOU STOP, I SWEAR I'LL GIVE YOU POWER, KNOWLEDGE!!!"

I then stopped assault and threw the demons together.

"I do want any of those, but you guys are definitely not trustworthy, so no, thank you."

"Now, I suggest you get the fuck out of my mind, or you will know the true meaning of fates worse than death."

The demons looked at me in fear and shock.

"Y-you are no child. You're the real demon here."

I merely smirked at this. "You're not the first person to call me that, and probably won't be the last."

A priest called me a Demon once after my experimentations were leaked to the public.

So these are lower class demons. I didn't know they were this weak. However, I should keep my guard up just in case.

After looking at me with terror in their eyes, they just disappeared, and I fell unconscious once more.

Then I woke up, I looked at my surroundings and realised I was lying on the sofa in the living room. When I looked at my body, I realised it was glowing.

However, the colour was different from the other auras I've had. This was a mixture of Black and red. I felt stronger than I was before.

It slowly began to disappear, and the feeling of getting stronger grew. I decided to try to look at my magic core for the first time

I began to leave my room. I then heard the sound of people arguing in the dining room.

It was mother and grandfather.

"DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU HAVE DONE. DARIUS IS PROBABLY SUFFERING MENTALLY BECAUSE OF YOU!!!"

"Oh, calm down, will you. Even if Darius fails, I can just give him the purification potion, and that will change him back. So why are you so mad?"

Tybur spoke with hidden anger in his voice.

"Father, you don't understand. Darius may be traumatised by the experience he is currently going through."

My grandfather then thought for a while.

"We can only hope that doesn't happen. I would be very disappointed if he gave up on dark magic."

I then decided to step inside the room.

"I find your lack of faith hurtful, grandfather."

I said with a fake sad tone and a smirk.

Everyone stared in shock as I had a smile on my face, despite being mentally attacked by demons.

My mother rushed to me and held my shoulders as she had a worried look in her eyes.

"Darius, are you alright? Do you need anything to help you feel better?"

I shook my head, and my smile grew.

"Mother, I feel more than just fine. I'm better than I ever was before."

I took then raised my right hand and verbally cast dark fireball. The fireball still had the same black colour, but it had a bit of red in it.

My grandfather looked proud, whereas the others looked uncomfortable.

My curiosity about the new colour change led to ask a question.

"Grandfather, why did the colour of my dark fireball change?"

"It's because you have cleansed your magic core of demonic infection."

"What do you mean by cleansing my magic core of demonic infection?" I asked curiously.

"When a mage uses dark magic, his core is affected and is used as a form of beacon for demons. Most demons that attempt to corrupt younglings like you are lower class demons."

"Most of the lower class demons are stupid and are very weak."

He's definitely right about that. The demon didn't even realise that I was asking him if I was stronger than him.

"When you succumb to the temptations, your core is corrupted and has a demonic aura around it. However, if you resist, then your core is healed."

Interesting, this is useful information indeed. I wonder if I can see my magic core.

"Grandfather, is it possible to see your own magic core?"

"It is possible. You just have to clear your mind of all thoughts, and you will be able to see your core. If you want to stop seeing it, just imagine yourself leaving with your willpower."

I then decided to try it, I cleared my mind of all thoughts. All of a sudden, I was in a dark world. In front of me was a sphere.

This sphere was pitch black with a bit of red in it. The black colour reminded me of my time in the Void, where I believe the colour of my soul turned pitch black.

I quickly realised that this was my magic core. It was an amazing sight to look at.

After I had some time, I left and returned to the real world where I was being shaken by my mother, who looked worried again.

"Mother, I'm fine, I was just looking at my magic core."

She sighed in relief, the worried look slowly disappearing.

Wait before the cleansing of the core, are all dark magic spells just pitch black.

"Grandfather, before the mental attack by demons, are all dark magic spells pitch black."

My grandfather nodded.

"Yes, it is. You see, after the cleansing of your core, the colour of your dark magic spells is still black but with a different colour added in."

"For example, my colour is black and purple, your fathers colour is black and green, your brothers colour is black and blue."

This is a lot to take in. Why did Zack give up his usage of dark magic? I know father gave up his to marry mother, but why Zack.

Zack gave up his usage of dark magic because of his parents, I know, but why did he comply. There was no backlash anymore, so why did Zack comply, and why did our parents ask him to stop.

"Zack, I have a question for you."

Zack raised his eyebrow and said in a curious tone, "What do you want to ask."

"Why did you give up your usage of dark magic?"

This caused everyone to have different facial expressions.

My grandfather looked angry, and my parents looked uncomfortable. Evie and Billy looked curious, and Zack had a stoic look on his face.

"I gave up on dark magic because of the effect it had on other people. My classmates stayed away from me in fear due to my power."

"My parents noticed this and got me to stop using it. Because of this, I was able to socialise, make friends, and grow closer to my mother's side of the family."

"Listen to me, Darius, dark magic is not worth using. It's an evil form of magic that does nothing more than destroy. It is not a gift. It is a curse."

He said this in a stern tone with a bit of pleading. My entire family looked moved by his words. Except for Crawford, who was glaring at Zack.

His words were... the one of if not the most stupidest things I have heard. He gave up using a powerful form of magic for friends and family.

Dark Magic is not evil nor a curse. It's a form of magic, nothing more, nothing less.

Saying that it's evil is like saying that a bunch of swords were the reason why you and your friends were experimented on by the church (Kiba).

I just looked at him as if I was looking at a retard. Zack noticed how I was looking at him and asked why I was looking at him that way.

"I'm just shocked at your stupidity."

Zack looked angry but calmed himself down and asked why I thought that.

"You say that dark magic is evil, but it's not. It's just a form of magic that has no consciousness. Saying that it's evil is saying that a bunch of weapons are evil."

"He's right." My grandfather spoke in a smug tone. "You won't be able to infect him with you stupidity, Zack, so stop trying."

Zack tried to speak, but Crawford merely looked at him in the eye, Zack backed down with his fists clenched.

"You have done well, Darius. Unlike your siblings and your father, you are not a disappointment."

"Which is why I will give you an offer, come with me and train for four years in a forest."

"I will teach you in the ways of magic, and Psionic Power. When your training is complete, you will be more than ready for the Imperial academies you choose."

My parents tried to object, but my grandfather shut them down with one look.

This offer has many benefits. Indeed, there are no cons, and there's no reason to refuse the offer.

Well, there are my parents, but who gives a shit.

"I accept grandfather."

My other family members looked upset, and my grandfather had a smirk on his face as he looked at them.

"Well then, prepare yourself for these four years. Don't expect any affection from me, for you will have none."
