The Mayan ceremonial dagger had an inscription in the ancient language that read: "Offer thy heart". It's obviously an instruction left by the past inhabitants of this forgotten place, but who would be stupid enough to stab himself in the heart with a rusty old knife found inside a tombstone?

After activating my battery pack the dagger shimmers brightly in a cyan light, the creatures are coming, I can hear their steps.

Uriel stood for a while in front of a closed door and heaved a dejected sigh. He was about to speak to a Professor and ask him to become his student but he didn't even know how to phrase it. Anyway, he was there already and there was no going back.

'Why does this have to be so difficult? Fighting cryptids is way easier.' He inwardly thought.

"Come in." A stern voice replied to the soft knocking on the door. The lab was spotless and there were many vials and all sorts of lab equipment in the shelves and cabinets all over the spacious room.

"I'll take you as a student. Grab a manual and prepare for the test. You're dismissed."

"About the manual, I already read it." Uriel was lying as he only got a glimpse of the contents on the book, but since Amy was so obsessed with it he could guess more or less what it said.
