Chapter 68: Giving A Girl What She Wants

I decided to head home and not risk being bedridden again. We were able to get back to town within a few hours. I was able to slip in without trouble since there were no monsters that looked like demonic beasts. When I got back to town, I ran into someone I hadn't seen in a while.

"Oh Rita, how are you doing?" I exclaimed, my voice betraying my surprise at seeing her in non-work clothes. Jeans? They were a novelty in Decomia, a common sight in the Nations of Agreement.

"I haven't seen you for weeks, and the day you came back, you never visited?" Rita's voice was tinged with annoyance. I felt a surge of guilt. I had forgotten to meet her after returning from my quest, a quest that had consumed my every waking moment for weeks. I needed to explain, and quickly!

"My master was bedridden, you know. Don't you have a girlfriend named Luna? Are you so distant in your relationship that you would keep your boy toy to yourself?" Mariette's words were like a slap in the face. "do us a favor and don't play the victim, you attention fiend." Her voice was cold, devoid of any sympathy.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? Was she even trying to defend me? It sounds like she was doing anything and everything to throw Rita under the carriage. I needed help, not a frontal assault. I could notice a vain that appeared on the head of Rita.

"Who the hell is this girl? This girl should be removed from the gene pool. I know that my man was bedridden. I let him rest and went to visit him, assuming he was in bed. Yet, he is out and about with a Witch of all things." Rita said, looking at Mariette's enormous witch hat.

"What a girl to be around. Master, do you really like Rita? She judges people based on appearance. I bet she only pretends to be friendly with Luna. There is no way people like her can like anyone but humans." Mariette said, and I could see lightning fly between both girl's eyes.

Now that I think about it. How does Mariette know anything about Luna? Are cards able to trade information or something? No, first off is damage control. Okay, think me, think! What about flowers? Girls like flowers, right? Yes, but flowers are beyond this type of damage control.

Should I propose a date of some kind? Do I have the funds for it? Maybe I should ask for a more personal date. Dates don't have to be all about money. Going to a park or going to see around the city would be good. I wish someone had told me what to do for dates—some type of guide or something. Rita brought me into reality again after I was lost in thought.

"Are you now feeling guilty? Sheesh, go ahead and have fun with some random prostitute in a brothel. Or better yet, have fun with the other blue-haired girl. If you like witches, people who abandoned their humanity, go ahead." Rita said as she was about to walk off.

Out of pure reflexes, I grabbed her hand and closed mine around it. She looked back in annoyance and tugged her hand away to no avail. I had to ask her out now, or I felt like our relationship would be over.

"Let's go on a date!" I blurted out.

"Why?" She said quickly. She stopped tugging her hand and remained there silent. She was annoyed that I proposed an outlandish idea—time to back up what I said with more words.

"We can go walk and talk. Sit on a bench, eat at a restaurant. We just need to catch up since we haven't seen each other in a while." I said, trying to say anything to keep her attention.

"You have nothing planned and are just spouting crap to keep my attention, are you?" Rita said the truth that I was trying to hide.

"Knew it. Well, we are going on a date during my terms." Rita said while dragging me behind her. My monsters followed me behind quietly.
