Chapter 63 Sad Smile

As I slid into the car, Alex was waiting to pick me up from Caroline's residence. The air was thick with tension. The weight of Matt's death settled heavily on my shoulders, and I couldn't help but feel anxious about what Alex would tell me. I asked him directly, my worry evident in my voice. "Any update?"

He hesitated for a moment, debating whether to share the truth. But he knew he couldn't keep it from me. "I had a talk with Dad earlier," he finally said, "and he expressed concerns about Matt's death."

I understood exactly what he meant. Matt's death was far from simple. He had been the alpha of the Eclipse pack, and his death occurred soon after the peace treaty was finalized. I knew my pack members would interpret his demise as an act of defiance against the peace treaty, and I could feel their anger and grief simmering beneath the surface. The fragile peace was on the brink of shattering, and the specter of an all-out war loomed before us.
