Chapter 4 - Departures – 2

Year 609

I spent the better half of two days packing and sorting through clothes for the travel to the kingdom.

This world is like any other, and the best way to have a smooth transition during travel is to carry plenty of cash and have reliable transport.

Father and Mother gave me access to my magical wallet (Spirit Bank is what they call it ), And since I have been assisting my parents with running the outlands and gathering crops, they have been putting savings into my account.

I was unaware of how well they were paid until I started comparing the prices of goods to the amount of money the kingdom sent out.

Both Mother and Father brought in about 10,000 Gochi a month which is similar to the US dollar, and monthly expenses were around 700 Gochi a month.

So, when I checked my Magical Wallet to see it had 132,012 Gochi saved in it I blew a sign of relief.

At least making it to the capital wouldn't be a financial struggle.

The biggest issue was going to revolve around getting permission from the village elder.

Due to the event, many people had died, and he began denying citizens the request to seek shelter in the kingdom.

This was due to the fact they needed an increased workforce to maintain daily crop work and rebuilding parts of the village that were destroyed.

So, I decided to sneak out myself with a disguise.

Using my earth magic, I stole some of Father's clothes and created earth Stilts to make myself seem taller and fill out in his clothes.

Wearing his dark brown cloaks along with his black work trousers, I slowly walked throughout the town towards the exit of the village, which is roughly a 3-mile walk that felt like a 100-mile walk due to how uncomfortable the earth stilts were.

Once I arrived at the village gates, there was a caravan on the outside with 16 townsmen dressed in general raggy clothes heading to the kingdom for multiple reasons.

Some will be heading to request loans to build new houses, and some will be going for new shelters or jobs.

Regardless of the reasons my plan was to just fit in with the crowded town folk.

As I walk up to the gate, the guards wearing rustic brown robes and having sheathed swords ask me my business for leaving.

I replied shortly that I would be heading to the capital with the current caravan and had been granted access to leave by the village chief.

I attempt to deepen my voice and mask my child-like features by using earth and wind magic from Naps, who continued to sleep while on top of my head.

Such a lazy creature, I think to myself as both guards look at each other and give me the nod to leave.

I thought it was odd they didn't question me more, but I chalked it up to the events of the past week and everyone just being past their personal breaking points.

Once, I passed through the city gates that looked big enough to fit 2-3 large-sized trucks.

The material looked marvelous and shined brightly with the embroiled words of "The First Gates of Sanctions." Scattered with gems of emeralds throughout the letters.

I was surprised no thieves ever attempted to steal the gems placed in the gate but I suppose if it's fully guarded, there is little opportunity.

Passing towards the caravan, I see in place are (2) 4-legged creatures covered in dark green wool and wings on each side spanning 3-4 feet long.

These look majestic and might have been sent from the kingdom itself to transport the civilians.

In an instant, a dome of clay surrounds me and hurls me to an unknown destination.

In my panic, I attempted to summon a rock pillar to puncture out of the wall, but in that instant, I began channeling my magic. An old man grabs me by the hand and says "No need for anything rash now."

I glance over in the darkness, not even noticing another person was in me with the dome. The voice sounded familiar once I heard it out loud.

As the dome fell into dust before my eyes and light shined through, I noticed I was back in the village and right outside the Chief's house.

"What am I doing here? I cry out" to the old man, who was the village chief dressed in dirty clothing.

Chief Basten: "My young boy, nothing escapes my eyes. I have a full understanding of everyone who leaves and comes into my village."

"Actually, your child friend warned me about your leavings and wanted me to stop you."

Toki: "Oh, so you won't let me leave then? I understand there are risks and dangers from here to the capital, but I have no choice but to seek out Father."

Chief Basten: "Matter of fact, I have no plans of holding you back and intend for you to head to the capital, I have but one simple request for you."

Toki: "With your acceptance to leave and head to the capital with the safety of the caravan, I will accept any request you have, Sir."

Chief Basten: Handing Toki a letter and wrapping a medallion across his neck. "This letter is for Emilia and Raptex."

"They are high advisors for the king, and this letter has high importance to them and the financial state of our village."

They also have a young daughter that I had the pleasure to meet many moons ago before I started to get a Shakey leg.

Please ensure she is in good health as well. And, of course, I expect an update upon your return.

This medallion is a symbol that I have granted you access to venture to the capital.

Due to your young age, you would be rounded up by the first adult with common sense not to let a child walk around freely.

Lord Tooj mentioned your efforts and ability to handle yourself well.

So, I fully grant you access to only travel with the caravan and back to maintain your safety.

Toki: Thank you sir; I will ensure the safe delivery of your message and report back to you once I have found my Father.
