Roy looked at the piece of marked land and smiled excitedly.
Talking about land and owning it were two different things.
The deeds were already under his name and Daniel settled everything for him.
He did not require to pay taxes or fill out more forms and other needlessly long procedures.
This made him realize how much clout Daniel had.
This piece of land was 20 miles into the urban forest and it surrounded a large lake.
The lake was technically still owned by the government, but who would come to claim a lake that was right in the middle of someone else's property?
Apart from the reserve strip around the lake, all the other pieces of land were under his name.
And Roy did not understand how Daniel managed to do it.
He thought that Daniel would get him one big chunk of land but the dude got him several surrounding the lake.
They all added up to more than the previously agreed amount.
Daniel might have misunderstood his intentions with the land, but this was also good.
Now he had more leeway and could have the option of expanding his property when the opportunity presented itself.
Roy brought up the system panel and started tinkering with it.
This was a high-tech system and it obviously had some handy features that were made available to him.
Even if the system did not like him, it still had to follow its basic work principle. It is just that it would not take the initiative to help him unless it was absolutely necessary.
As for it put him in danger, he was worried about it at first, but the more he thought about it, the less sense it made.
This system was made by a supreme being as an experiment. And according to the name it gave him at the start, he was sure that there were more than 100 modules of this system unit in the experiment.
This meant that the supreme being had some sort of agenda and the being would not permit stupid mistakes just because the system was too proud.
The other point was that since there were so many modules, there must be a competition of some sort or a quota that the modules had to meet.
That's why the system was so upset when it found out that he had no talents or skills.
But this also gave him hope. If his speculation was correct, he had a chance to change the system's view of him.
He might not be skilled or smart for that matter, but he knew how best to spend resources.
He had been forced to squeeze every resource he could get since young, it had now become an instinct for him.
"Let's get this over with. Tonight, I should treat Mom to a great dinner."
He selected the scanning function and scanned the piece of land and a miniature version of the plot was displayed in the system panel.
This is the feature he had unlocked when he received the computer knowledge. One had to know that he had knowledge that covered even satellite technology, if he had to rely on the software and hardware available currently, it would take ages to even design a small satellite.
This was the solution the system provided him.
The function could scan objects in real life and scale them down into a projection that he could manipulate in the system space.
It was a simulation that considered all the laws of the real world, helping him get rid of the trial and error phase.
Now that he had everything he needed for today, he decided to go do some shopping.
The guy who brought them to the property would follow him for the rest of the day and see if he needed anything.
Daniel valued him more than Roy had expected. If Roy did not stop him, he might have abandoned the poor guy to be his errand boy.
While that sounded fun and all, he did not want other people around him who had divided loyalties.
His sudden rise was bound to attract unwanted attention and being in such a country where money and power were supreme, he could not entrust his safety in the hands of someone in another's paycheck.
And given the skills he currently had, he was sure that he could hire bodyguards in a year at most, or better yet, force the government to protect him.
But that was for later.
Right now what he needed to do was ensure that he could give his mother a more comfortable life.
…
Roy came home and found that his mother was already waiting for him.
It was a good thing that he had come early before her condition started acting up.
It seemed that today was one of those days that she was given an early leave because of her condition.
Not many people had the patience to take care of her, and giving her a job was already a great kindness. Especially when all she did was sit there and watch an empty street.
After a wash and comforting his mother for a few minutes, Roy went to the kitchen.
His culinary skills were vastly inferior, but he was determined to cook a delicacy tonight.
He brought up the system store and scrolled to the culinary section.
There he saw things that he could not even comprehend. If he allowed his imagination to run wild, he would certainly go crazy.
Selecting the level 10 culinary mastery, he felt a stream of information flow into his brain as he gained new knowledge and insight into the art of cooking.
From the different cuisines of the universe to the methods of preparing them. The tools he needed and even the methods of making said tools.
The gastronomies of several civilizations were available to him and once he digested all his gains, he was speechless.
"Michelin star chefs my ass. I should start my own ranking."
