Chapter 10: To be a Prince

Blaise's radiant smile at Raphael's words stung Lucien deeply. He had stated to believe that Blaise actually loved him. It hurt to see him happy at the prospect of Raphael taking him away.

Blaise's eyes met Lucien's, a flicker of conflict visible within their violet depths. Lucien's heart pounded, his mind racing to make sense of things. Had it all been an act? Had Lucien meant nothing to him?

Blaise turned back to Raphael and spoke. "I already told you in my letters... I can't marry you. I'm too young for marriage."

Lucien's breath caught. That wasn't what he was expecting. Blaise had already refused Raphael's proposal? It gave him a little bit of hope. Maybe Blaise really was trying to disentangle himself from Raphael. Or maybe not. Maybe he just didn't want to marry him.
