Fiancée (5)

Charles did not know why he felt uncomfortable in his chest when Thalia said this. At the back of his head, he felt something was off, but he was unsure what it was. He leaned over and kissed her forehead.

He stayed by her side, caressing her softly until her breathing evened out. Charles then got up and trudged out of the room. He could have chosen to stay in the room to keep her company in her sleep, especially with her mood, but he had too much on his mind, and he felt uneasy for some reason, so he left, convincing himself that he did not want to disturb her.

"Stupid and naïve man," she whispered to herself in the dark room. As if the baby could sense her despair, it kicked, and that had her smiling a little as she rubbed her big tummy.
