"Lucy, you need to go and report to Mr. Walker instantly!"
A fine voice entered her ears. With the tip of the pen in between her lips, Lucy immediately turned around to see another personal secretary of Davis Walker walking to her.
"Oh, is he free now? I thought he had a meeting going on with our foreign clients." Lucy asked doubtfully and simultaneously she arranged her iPad to get up from her seat.
"He is done with the meeting but please be careful..." The opposite man was Liam, the personal secretary of Davis Walker and one of the five secretaries who worked for Mr. Walker.
Davis Walker's team consisted of five special members, who were all assigned different tasks and given different duties.
Lucy raised her eyes to look at Liam and found sweat lingering on his forehead which made her raise her brows, "Is there anything you are missing to tell me?"
"B-Boss's mood is terrible right now. Be sure to be accurate otherwise..." Liam didn't need to complete it as he knew it would be easily understood by the beauty in front of him.
Who doesn't know Mr. Walker is a hot-tempered man? A single mistake could make him fire them. His warning was straight for Lucy to be cautious and she took the signs well.
Rolling her eyes, Lucy smiled at Liam and stuffed him with an assured gaze that didn't miss the young man's notice.
"Let's face the demon then..." Lucy sighed and walked to the cabin on the top floor.
She came in front of the door and took a deep breath to gather the energy to face the devil behind this door, 'Here goes nothing...' She thought.
Knocking on the door, she heard the command, "Come in." With this, Lucy softly held the knob and opened the door to face the gloomy face of her boss. "Sir, did you call me?"
Her sweet and low voice pulled Mr. Walker's attention. He lifted his pitch-dark black eyes as his lips covered into a sarcastic smile, "Miss Lucy, you should know when the meeting ends."
"T-The meeting was supposed to last one hour. I checked the time and it's only..." her gaze traveled to look at her watch and blurted out, "....only twenty minutes have passed."
"I rejected their offer." came a simple reply from his side and Lucy could very well understand the reason behind his terrible expressions. 'Was the other party's proposal so bad for him to be mad like this?'
She was concerned for them but quickly locked her thoughts back into her head to narrate the rest of the schedule to him, ".....and like this, we have a meeting with Mr. TS who is going to bring his proposal again for review. After that, there is a banquet that needs your presence, Sir...."
Hearing this, Davis suddenly lifted his eyes. Just a simple stare from his end and Lucy felt her legs going numb. 'Why is he looking like he will devour me alive?' Subconsciously, she brought her hair and tugged them behind her ear as nervousness crawled under her skin.
Her fair and bright skin seemed to appear like a mirror to Davis. He could feel light falling on his face when she moved her hair back.
As he noticed her concerned eyes shining with a glimmer, something came to his mind "Lucy, you have been working for me for almost one year now."
"Y-Yes."
"Don't you still know that I don't attend entertainment banquets at all?" his sarcasm at her and she realized her mistake. "But sir, this one is important. Our major clients are the ones organizing this event. Your appearance is necessary today..."
In the end, Lucy's voice trailed into a small pitch on receiving an almost death glare from him. She could kick him for giving her such an intense gaze that contained the threat.
Her heart strummed against her chest so loudly where thought she would collapse from shock anytime soon.
Yet the arrogant man didn't allow himself to act soft to her natural turmoil of emotions. "Have you checked all the other cons if I don't attend?" Davis inquired, not removing his eyes from her, "Absolutely, Sir. Otherwise, I won't have added this to your previous schedule at all."
"Very well then..." Davis signaled her with his hands, "Go and prepare for it. I will attend this one. Ask Liam to bring my clothes to the office."
"I shall get it done, Sir." Lucy nodded and took steps back to exit the cabin at lightning speed.
When Davis saw her running like a rabbit, his eyes became cold again. His single stare contained a different meaning and it didn't tear off from her until he saw her figure completely out of his sight.
A sigh escaped from Davis's lips as he recalled his earlier actions. Hence after a long battle with his mind, he opened the drawer of his table and took out an agreement that was lying inside, "This needs to be done soon...." he couldn't help but mutter and feel the burden tremendously increasing over his shoulders.
His grip tightened around the agreement and without sparing it another glance, he again put it back into the drawer, finally closing his eyes to stop those thoughts from running and haunting him back…
....
The evening wasn't far and Davis was getting ready in his adjoining room for one of the events under his schedule. Liam stood by his side and helped Mr. Walker in wearing his coat with absolute care.
"Sir, the invitation specifically mentioned that everyone needs to bring one companion with them." Liam specified but it didn't gain any notice from the young man,
"Those rules apply to others. Do you think they will care about my companion?"
Liam shook his head at this question.
However, his fear covered his thoughts too well. He had no idea how to converse with his boss regarding his personal matters at all. The mere silence and hesitancy caused Liam to clench his fist.
But the simple deviation from his side didn't befall Liam's eagle eyes, "Something amiss today?" He couldn't help but ask, keeping calm.
Liam lifted his gaze, trying to cover up in a better way, "I heard that some people coming tonight will benefit us. It will be very useful from a business perspective."
"I understand your concern. But is it all you wish to say?" Davis's wording struck at the core point which Liam insisted not to mention.
It held different outcomes and knowing Davis Walker, this man won't sit idle.
A thought crossed Liam's mind which made him take a deep breath and then continued to report back to Liam, "I heard Ms. Sierra is also going to show up at the event with her new investor since she is a rising star of the modeling industry."
Liam stopped in the middle and peaked at Davis's expressions. Those sentiments… affirmed and showed no variation except the cold glimmer.
"Anyone else?" Liam couldn't help but ask, excepting to get more information which was easily what he assumed, "Your half-brother, Denis Walker is also going to make a presence…"
Automatically, the name brought undefined winter mist on Davis's face. His aura gradually decreased while his veins started to pop on his hands.
'Denis Walker…' Davis found his jaw tightening as his teeth gritted.
No words are enough to describe his sentiments currently. A fury rose on hearing that he would need to face Denis and his mood sour.
But in the end, Liam sensed the changes very quickly and opened his mouth before Davis could have engulfed himself in the darkness, "I would suggest you bring a companion today…"
"Companion?" Davis repeated with twisted brows and Liam nodded.
"Anyone will be fine to show the world tonight. Take her as your partner who will assist in talking with other businessmen."
Liam's words did make sense but Davis was at a loss. He had no idea whom he could ask to be his companion, a partner for a night!
However, Liam seemed to have a name in his mind. Yet before he could have told his boss about the same, he heard Davis naming a person on his own accord.
"Ask Ms. Lucy Warner to get ready, we will pick her up from her home in an hour."
