Staring at the lady in front of his eyes, Davis could feel sweat lingering on his forehead. "W-what are you doing to here at this hour?!"
"I need your help." Lucy gathered the courage to face him and replied back.
But her wet body betrayed her. She lifted her eyes to look at him and muttered, "Is...that...agreement still valid?"
"Uh?" Davis was bewildered.
He tried to look for some answers but in his sight was a totally clueless lady and a bit lost in her world.
"Why don't you come inside first? It's raining heavily."
Lucy nodded her head. Her hands were wrapped around either side of her biceps with a layer of shiver passing through her spine.
Stepping inside, she removed her shoes from the door and walked in her dripping clothes. She heard Davis ordering his maid to bring a towel for her and she was grateful for the same.
But then her eyes found Liam present in the big mansion as well. "Liam..." She was going to talk about the marriage contract and he was here too…
While Lucy thought that she would be the only one to face this embarrassment now, who would have guessed that it would be in the presence of someone else too?
The man passed her a wink and she gave him a dry smile. "What brings you here, Ms. Warner? That's late at night."
"I-I...need the help of Mr. Walker." Lucy kept on standing until Davis told her. "Go inside with her. She will help you in changing to something more comfortable."
Hearing this, Lucy raised her eyes to stare at the man but he understood her concern. "Those clothes are from my cousin's. Change into something else, otherwise, you will catch a cold."
Despite the urge to not buy his words, Lucy ended up walking with the elder maid who directed her to one of the big rooms where she changed her soaked clothes with fresh ones.
On the other end, Davis's heart was suddenly beating fast. His cold-blooded eyes didn't leave her back and vanished from his gaze.
"You are suddenly being overly protective towards her, Davis. But what did she say at the entrance?" Liam knew something happened between them.
Otherwise, there was no way this Walker would stay silent.
Davis showed no response but shrugged his hand through his hair. There was a turmoil of emotions going inside his brain when he repeated her sentence- IS the agreement still valid?
'What kind of help does she need from me?'
After a few minutes, Davis claimed his composure back was his usual nature. He stood there and waited till his eyes caught Lucy walking back in a slightly oversized t-shirt and black jeggings. Her hair was still wet but dried with one of the towels.
Lucy came by their side and opened her mouth. "Thank you for this." Liam nodded his head.
"As I told you, I need your help in something. In return, we can go ahead with the arrangement that you made. But this needs to be done tonight..." Lucy didn't know how she blurted her words but it was something she needed to clear.
As usual, Davis and Liam were filled with curiosity about her actions. "Lucy..sit first. Why don't you tell us why you need Davis's help and with what...?"
Lucy didn't deny it and took the invite. She sat beside Liam and started narrating the details of the day. She watched Davis walking to his bar and sipping his drink while standing against the counter and hearing her words with his furrowed brows.
Lucy could feel nervousness crawling under her skin. Biting her lower lip, she said, "To save my brother..I need money. I have given all my savings into this operation but it isn't sufficient. Doctors..have said that surgery needs to be done by tomorrow and within twenty-four hours. I-I don't know anyone who can help me except you."
"I called my friend but no one can lend such a big amount because their pockets might not allow it. So...can you please..." Lucy didn't lift her eyes and decided to play with her finger.
She was a hell of a nervous from what she was stepping into. It was playing with fire, to be declared as the wife of this business typhoon.
There was no way she would enjoy that limelight because her normal life will turn into a mess.
"You need money for the operation, right?" Liam intervened and Lucy nodded her head. Tears were on the brink of escaping from her eyes like glitters. "I tried my best...but..my brother's life is critical. I-I know that amount might not be big for you but for me, I can't afford it...I don't have it." Lucy tried to hide in her embarrassment but Liam patted her back. "I understand your concern about this."
Liam saw Davis not saying a single word and in return, he glanced at him.
In the end, Liam sighed and said, "I think you and Davis need to talk with each other in private. I will take my leave now. Let me know if I can come to your assistance anyhow." Liam's words contained mockery and Davis only gave him death glares which the man took as a nod.
When Liam left, Lucy and Davis were the only ones present in the giant living room. Lucy's heart was jittering with this silence and she knew Davis might be back in front of him. 'I can't let him go back on this...I need money..'
"Mr. Walker, is it possible for you to help-"
"Lucy Warner, I'm sorry for your brother's accident." These were his first words and Lucy didn't comment back so he continued, "I understand that you might be going through some shock. That's very cruel for you but I hope you know that I don't do charity."
Lucy's mouth parted but her lips found their way to each other. He was right...she couldn't ask for him to do charity for her either.
When Davis realized that Lucy understood the meaning behind the words, he walked to her and didn't tear his eyes from hers, "You are at the correct place. I will give you money...and in return, you will have to become my wife for a few months. Afterward, I will be on my way and you will go on yours."
"Will you be able to do so?"
