Married!

In the car, Lucy was wearing a long white trench coat over a peach-colored high neck. She had braised some parts of her hair and left the rest of them open.

Biting her lower lip, her hands were pressed together and she knew sweat was covering her entire self.

Meanwhile, Davis beside her was absolutely calm in his demeanor. From the moment he picked her up, he had been watching her actions and knew she was having double thoughts.

"Sorry Miss Warner but you have lost your chance of backing out from this deal now."

"I have no such intent." Lucy gave a short reply and didn't raise her head. But her ears got his sarcasm. "Is it true? But I could see that you have almost hit yourself with nails and it has left the back of your hand red." At such close inspection, Lucy immediately stopped playing with her hands.

She gently rested both of her palms on her lap and looked out from the window. 'When is Liam going to come back now?'

They were sitting inside Davis's car and waiting for their number inside the marriage bureau. It was said that they will need to wait until their turn, despite them being the special ones because of Davis's status.

Lucy's memory drifted back to early morning when she signed the contract with Davis for his nine-month marriage. In fact, she had to sign up for a prenup but Lucy didn't raise her voice.

All her concern at this point was to be done with this marriage and get back to her brother...

After a few more minutes of waiting, there was finally a knock on her door and she saw Liam there. "Both of you can come out. It's your turn."

Lucy's hand froze but she gave a small smile. Liam opened the door for her and she stared at the building until Davis took her hand into his. His actions took her back but he was least bothered.

When he sensed her gaze at him, he moved his neck to face her and said, "Let's get this done and save your brother too..."

....

Two hours later

Lucy and Davis walked inside the hospital where all the dues for the operation were immediately settled by Davis's financial team. In her eyes, he was the man of his word who had ordered his team to transfer the funds the moment they got their hands on the marriage certificate.

She came to the receptionist where the final documents needed to be signed and the lady asked for her name, "May I know your name please?"

Lucy was ready to answer but she felt a hand on her shoulder. She moved her head back to see Davis smiling at her, but it made her confused.

Instead of her, he answered on her behalf. "Lucy Warner Walker."

"Alright, your relationship with the patient?" The receptionist further asked and Davis said, "She is the sister of the patient."

With this, the receptionist passed her the documents to be signed and till this time, Lucy hardly pulled herself away from the daze. The name which Davis pronounced was too soothing to the ears....but at the same time, she accepted a realization on her face.

"You will need to sign here." Lucy was told.

Lucy took the pen and was ready to sign her name but this time with a new name where her new surname was attached to it. Staring at it for a few seconds, she switched her head and gave it back to the lady before Davis pulled her to the patient room.

On their way, there was absolute silence. While Lucy was still not able to absorb the reality of the day, Davis tried to make small conversation. "You don't have any family members except your brother, right?"

"I married you, Mr. Walker. It would be strange to say that you haven't done a background search on me." Lucy's quick reply gained a chuckle from the man.

Lucy gave him a glance and noticed how his formal look gained attention from various nurses and lady doctors. 'As expected of this outstanding man..'

"I know about you but it would be better for you to explain it to me face to face." Davis gave a vague reply but Lucy didn't take much. "He is my only brother. Both of us were together in an orphanage and all I know about my background is...my name, my surname, and that Adam is my brother by blood."

Lucy turned to look at Davis again, this time with no joy in those black eyes. "I have no idea about my lineage. I have grown up in an orphanage where things weren't the best but I gained a scholarship and got my schooling and university degree. My life doesn't hold much excitement, a normal girl with no parental love. That's the reason for me, Adam is my world and maybe, more than that."

"That's the reason you were willing to sacrifice yourself." Davis suddenly said and Lucy paid no heed to his words. They weren't harsh, but she was avoiding pitying herself.

Lucy turned her head again to look at the operating room and muttered, "I hope Adam is fine...that's all worth everything."

Davis didn't say much, but his interest was equipped with this girl. Suddenly his fate was entangled with a girl who had no background, unlike others.

The man tried to not show his amusement.

Unfortunately, his face was left with no scope of escaping his expressions. But Lucy didn't pay attention where her mind was wandering around to pray for her brother's recovery and for success.

Yet the man's scorching gaze could hardly move from the lady, as he felt something off. Her beauty was way more attractive but then he still found it odd for her to not find someone to love.

'Isn't it strange?' Which normal man could resist her?

But she held a strong aura. Something about his new wife was worth his attention which he couldn't figure out, but his heart did say.

'I guess I will need to find out more about you, my dear wife...'
