Attack from Mafia!

Three hours since the operation started and there was no news about the results. Lucy sat on the benches outside the surgery room alongside Davis, who showed no response to her prayers.

The moment he saw Lucy drawing herself into remembering her god, he had stopped himself from muttering anything to her.

But his eyes had caught the sight of Liam, whom he had given a meaningful glare which he understood and left to get the work done.

After a few minutes, the lights of the room were turned off and he looked at the land beside him.

"The surgery is over."

Davis's voice pulled Lucy out of her daze.

She slowly opened her eyes and her drenched gaze turned to stare at the door. She saw the doctors exiting the room and she judged by their exit. "Doctor! M-My brother..."

"The operation was a success. But we would need to keep the patient in the hospital for at least one week. Afterward, there needs to be a regular visit to the hospital for a checkup."

"H-His...life isn't in danger anymore, right?" Lucy carefully asked again without showing a bit of excitement and the doctor gave her an adorable smile. "He is fine. But his legs...they will take a few months until he can get up on them."

In the end, Lucy nodded her head. Her concern was about saving Adam's life, not about his legs as she knew her brother's willpower which rests above everything.

As she motioned and saw the doctors leaving, she sensed a hand on her shoulder which tightened its grip. "don't worry."

"I know..he is fine and that's all that matters.." Lucy sighed in relief and diverted her attention back to her new husband. "Aren't you supposed to go to the office? You have a meeting today with the foreign clients."

"That could be postponed for now. Today is a big day for you as well as for me." hearing this, Lucy's eyes furrowed.

She couldn't understand the double meaning behind his sentence but dodging her urges, she only gave him a stare and then looked inside the operation theater.

As her gaze traveled to find her brother, she could feel mist covering herself. 'I couldn't be weak anymore. I have to take care of him.'

With a strong thought, she tapped on her cheeks to not let the tears fall down.

This was until she heard the footsteps behind her and found Liam walking in their direction. He came by their side and greeted them. "Mr. Walker and Mrs. Walker."

The sudden respect and change of address took Lucy aback. She took a deep breath and heard Davis asking Liam. "Who had hit my brother in -law's car so badly that it turned to ashes? Hmm?"

"Davis, the police are trying to find it out but I feel that some bad people are associated with this." Liam deliberately gave an unnoticed answer and Davis finally understood. He found Lucy's brows furrowed as she questioned. "Bad people? What kind of bad people?"

"Mrs. Walker, bad people as such shabby people. Cops are still investigating the matter and I think we should trust their process.." till the end of his words, Liam watched Davis and asked, "I would like to talk with Davis in private regarding something. If you could please excuse us."

"Sure." Lucy turned a blind eye to the same and she turned her attention back to her brother.

Davis, who is himself very curious about the entire incident, walked away with Liam and they came to the other corner of the hospital, in some other corridor.

"What did you mean by bad people, Liam?" Davis couldn't help but ask, knowing the man was merely trying to scrap the news in front of Lucy.

In return, Liam's face dropped the small smile and turned serious. "The news isn't good, Davis. I got our men to check and it seems that the people behind this are Phoenix gang members. They were after Adam Warner's life this time."

"Phoenix?" Davis repeated the name with twisted brows and got a positive nod from Liam. "But why will they attack such a normal citizen? I'm sure they will not go and harm someone as useless as Adam who must be of no use to them."

"We have no clue about their intentions. but I can assure you that our news is correct." Liam was confused with the tuning of events.

Knowing Lucy Warner, she was a normal working woman. She was an orphan and led a normal life. Including her brother who must be the same as her. "Boss, I think there is something that we are missing. They were after Adam Warner's life for a reason."

For a few minutes, Davis stayed quiet. He couldn't help but wonder and turn his mind in various directions.'What could be the reasons for them attacking Adam? Is Lucy also in danger?'

Since she was associated with him, it would be troublesome to find something shabby about her.

Yet the background check he went through about her showed no such involvement with mafia groups!

Davis shoved his hand inside the pocket of his jeans and walked back and forth while keeping his face downcasted. He was in serious tension until he looked at Liam again, "We did check Adam's life as well."

"There was no attachment with a mafia group. They were clean."

"But how could a man who was attacked by a phoenix be saved? We know how fierce these people are in their attacks." Davis said with his eyes turned cold. His aura changed into the winter mist. It was as if the air of Antarctica were coming straight and Liam gulped in anxiety. "You mean to say..."

"Someone is saving them from afar," Davis said straightforwardly and Liam agreed. "Possible. But why?"

Liam couldn't figure it out. Why will they need protection and from whom? Who are these siblings in reality with no lineage attached to them?

Davis turned his back to either side and gave the order, "That is something we will have to find out about them. Search more...there is surely an involvement of mafia for a specific reason."
