Hiding

Lucy was sitting beside her brother and she looked at how the nurse injected the injection in the drip's bottle and left which gave her some alone time with her brother.

"Any discomfort, Adam?" she asked softly and he shook his head softly. "Just pain around my head... and leg. But I feel it will increase when the antibiotic's effect waves off..."

Even though Adam had undergone a long hour of surgery and was almost asleep throughout the last day, his soft rumble was still a blessing in disguise for Lucy, whose face was graced with a wide grin around her lips.

"I'm happy that you are fine. Don't worry, the doctor has said you will be fine but need the regular checkups and just a few more months before you start standing back on your feet."

Adam didn't say anything but lifted his other hand which was free to softly touch his sister's cheeks.

His heart ached at the sight of her worries but knowing her better, she must be in the mess when he wasn't well. "I hope you haven't stressed much, Lucy.."

Instead of answering, Lucy only smiled and kept on caressing his hand with hers.

She couldn't tell him how she was under the rain last night and had gone to her boss, only to end up marrying him for a contract. She parted her lips but no words could come out on their own.

But seeing her not protesting, Adam asked himself, "Anything?"

"Well..." Lucy's facial expressions couldn't be concealed so easily so she asked him instead, "Do you remember how you got into an accident? I'm sure the cops will be here soon to question you too."

Adam turned silent and shifted his face back to straight and stared at the ceilings. He closed his eyes as his lips started narrating the tale.

"I was going to the office a bit late because I stopped midway to grab a coffee. But when I sat inside and drove my car,...i saw a white car following me continuously. I couldn't see...people inside because the windows were black tinted."

"But I tried to take a few turns and they still followed so I knew something was wrong. But before I could even recognize what was happening, they had hit me from behind and in front another car came. To save myself from getting that car, I had taken a turn which ultimately caused my car to smash into the tower on the street. But afterward...."

Adam's lips shivered and a frown started to trace his forehead when he recalled some faint events, some whispers. "Some people said I'm saved...they said...I'm the master...that's it..."

"The people who saved you must be really good. We should be grateful to them." Lucy told and Adam showed no response.

He opened his looked again and watched Lucy by his side. "I don't know who followed me. But I feel it was intentional.."

"Hmm. From your words, it seems it was intentional, But who wants to harm you so bad, brother?" Lucy was doubtful and she had no clue. In fact, the much she tried to dig her mind to know answers, in the end, she found herself empty-handed.

But Lucy didn't fire him either because knowing his temper, he must be already confused like her. "Don't worry, cops will do their job. We have to be safe and take precautions." Adam agreed with her words.

Yet Lucy's inner conflict never faded. She was smiling at her brother but her heart was crazily yelling at her to tell him about the step she took, about her sacrifice of getting into the marriage. 'But how will he react? He already hates Davis Walker so much. What else will his reaction be?'

Lucy dared not to imagine because her mere thought was filled with horror and uneasiness.

Subconsciously, she grabbed her coat below the bed to not let herself be eaten alive by her nervousness.

But to her dismay, the corner of Adan's eyes caught her actions. "Lucy...is..something wrong about me?"

"Um? No! No! Not at all. I-I was just worried about your health. don't worry." In the end, Lucy decided to take some time to not speak her mouth about this for now.

She could feel the deadly consequences waiting for her ahead but she was ready to accept them, as long as he doesn't get back to this hospital bed again.

However, her strong ears caught the noise of the footsteps. 'Someone is approaching us..'

Without a second thought, she left Adam's side and urgently appealed to him, "I-I will be back soon! I think..I need to tell my boss about my leave. I-I will be back! Get some rest, okay?"

Without waiting for him to even respond to her words, Lucy stepped out of the room and closed it properly behind her back. As soon as her eyes caught the sight of the man, she was grateful she did run away right now.

"Davis.."

"How is your brother now?" He asked but she gave a nod. "he is fine, already awake but the medicine's effect is still there on his body. But he will be fine as long as he keeps his willpower strong."

"That's good to hear." Davis then saw Lucy standing in between the door of the room and him. His brows raised in suspicion and as if she sensed his thoughts, she blurted out. "Not now!"

"Umm?"

"I mean...you shouldn't meet my brother right now..." Lucy was straightforward but Davis was still persistent. "He is my brother-in-law, even for a few months but he is. I think I should at least give him my.."

"No! Not right now, please? Let him recover first, then I will tell him about our contract marriage but please do not disclose it to him right now." Lucy's pledging did work. As much as Davis was still not convinced, he took into account her problems.

He gave her some face and didn't insist on the meeting anymore. Seeing this, Lucy sighed in relief but her happiness didn't last for long when he spoke, "We need to leave. Come with me."

Davis gave her no time to react and took her wrist to pull her with him out of the hospital.

In front of the entire hospital, he showed no intention of letting her go and Lucy had to keep her head slightly down because of the out lookers and the gaze she received. 'God...can't he let go of my hand in this hospital at least!'

She wasn't ready for so much public attention out of the blue!

Yet he didn't give in to her inner request until they reached the car and they were finally sitting inside.

"So..why have you called me here?" she asked him and moved her face to see him. Till now, she was coming across the most manageable boss of hers, he was easy to talk to sometimes.

But right now, she could see he wanted to say something else and he was giving it a few more thoughts. "Mr. Walker..."

"I think you should know the reason why I proposed this marriage contract with you."
