"Lucy," Davis called her name and gained her attention when she shifted her neck to face his side profile. "Yes?"
"I just wanted to let you know that.. we are going to my grandfather's house. He would like to meet the daughter-in-law of the house today."
"I need to meet Elder Master Walker?" Lucy asked again and this time, with dead fear lingering by her side.
"Yes. This marriage is to let him know that I have found a girl and married. By every means, you are the daughter-in-law of the family so it is right to meet and show him that I'm no longer single." Davis answered without batting an eye.
But each and every word was like a knife hitting her heart steadily. Even though she accepted the contract of marriage, it is never in her thoughts that there will be families involved.
Her silence was taken as yes and Lucy shifted her attention back to the outside world even though her head was a pure mess.
Soon her thoughts were closed down when her phone rang and in her eyes came the contact of her friends. "Yes, Sheron."
"Lucy!! What the hell is going on!? You are married?" The voice was at its peak and hearing the words brought a frown on Lucy's forehead.
"Sharon.. it's.."
"Don't give me the reasons! Did you marry your boss... Walker!? Are fucking Davis Walker's wife!? Don't lie!"
Lucy's eyes moved to stare at the man beside her and he simply answered in a slow voice. "The news was sent to all the papers. Till now it must be a headline already."
"You! Were you in such a hurry because you thought I would change my mind!?" Lucy wanted to freak out but she only cursed him under her breath while holding her phone away from her lips.
"You could have waited for a few days!" She hissed but Davis didn't pay any heads. "This marriage is for the media and the public. I told you about this before so handle your friends ."
Lucy bit her lower lip in order not to give him a slap at this point but she claimed her voice, and found herself staring at him with her dead expression!
"You are a dead devil, old man walker!"
…..
The mansion
Davis and Lucy stepped inside hand in hand. At first glance, the butler was shocked but he composed and bowed in front of them respectively, "Mr. and Mrs. Walker, congratulations on your marriage."
"Thank you, Uncle Shen. Could you please call my grandfather downstairs now?" Davis used his formal tone and the man nodded his head.
The butler was slightly on the older side but she understood that these rich types of families prefer experience over anything.
Her eyes went along with Davis and she found herself looking at the stairs. After a few minutes, sounds of a stick were heard and this diverted their attention back to an old man descending the stairs.
"Grandfather."
David got up and acknowledged. Whereas Lucy was still lacking in her plan of action. 'How should I greet him?' There was confusion but she followed her regular traditions.
Getting up from her seat, Lucy walked to the elder master Walker and gave him kisses on his hands and either cheek.
"Nice to meet you, sir. I'm Lucy Warner, Davis's wife."
While the men in the room were stunned, a sly smirk passed through the old man's lips. "Such a nice name you have, child." His tone was flattering but Lucy smiled keenly. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Sir."
"No need for such a formality. Now you should call me grandpa just like your husband." At this point, Lucy could easily detect that Davis was still cold to his family members.
Not like she was surprised but in the depth, he was standing at a side with his aloof expression without intending to come any closer.
To ease the surroundings a bit, Lucy stepped aside and helped the old man in taking a seat with them in the living room. She saw the butler bringing the tea for them and she took it with a small smile.
"I heard that you got your marriage certificate today, is that right Davis?" Grandfather put forward his attention to his grandson who was still not interested in any kind of conversation for now. "That's correct. We got our certificate in the morning."
"I understand. Lucy has been working with your company for so long. But it would have been better if you could just bring her to us and have a formal introduction before marriage. Like, I had no idea that you have someone by your side." Elder Master's speech made Lucy slightly nervous.
She could observe the man was keen on knowing more about the foundation of their relationship but how were they supposed to react that they have none?
Lucy stared at her husband, who stayed silent before he nodded. "I was afraid that you will force her into the limelight immediately. I took my time to not scare her."
"Hah! You know me too well, Davis." The old man patted Davis's shoulder but received no reaction from the young man...
Then he shifted his attention to the new daughter-in-law of the family. "Lucy, please don't mind our first meeting. I'm genuinely happy that Davis finally found someone to spend his life with.."
"You can rest assured Grandpa," Lucy told again but this time she felt the man assessing her from top to bottom. His eyes were more clever than an eagle and she wondered how he could not detect the lies we laid in front of him.
But the moment she was still wondering about her various thoughts, she saw Grandfather looking at Davis again and said, "I hope this is…"
"Let's have dinner first, grandfather. We will talk about it afterward."
