Ten

I wait on my front porch for Adam to pick me up. My mom is so excited, but my heart hurts. I know who I wanted to be going out with.

He pulls into our driveway with his BMW. Adam's family came from money just like mine. He was very popular in school, and every girl wanted to date him.

I think he is someone who likes to help people, that's why he's a police officer, but he still has a judgmental side. He beeps the horn and waves to my mom.

My mom grabs my arm. "Remember protection."

"Mom, I have no intention to sleep with him," I hiss.

She laughs.

I shake my head and walk towards his car. Luckily, I had enough time to do my makeup. I wasn't too big on makeup. I wore it for recitals, pictures, and special occasions.

"You look stunning." He tells me.

"Thanks."

"I made a reservation for The Rex," he tells me.

"Yum."

The Rex was the fanciest restaurant. Even some celebrities have been known to dine there. My mom and I eat there often. Some plates cost up to $1,000. I think it's a stupid way to spend money.

Once in the car, he kisses me on the cheek. "I am glad you agreed to go out with me.'

"I am too."

We drive off. I feel comfortable around Adam. I can't stop thinking about Corey. Everything was perfect today, and yet it was so simple. Would Adam ever be just simple with me? Will it always be fancy restaurants?

In moments, we pull into The Rex. I can hear the jazz music coming from the establishment in the car.

"You ready?" He asks.

I nod.

We get out of his car and walk towards the restaurant. Entering the restaurant, I hear laughter and smell the delicious food. We sit at a table next to the main window. On a piece of paper that sits on the table, our names are written on it, Sadie and Adam.

I didn't need to look at the menu, I usually order the same things every time. The waiter leaves fresh bread on our table.

"Let me guess you're ordering the Mushroom stuffed ravioli."

I laugh. "You know me so well."

"I am thinking of Bluefin Tuna," he tells me.

" Sounds good."

In a moment, the waiter brings out our main dish. After, we already had salad and bean soup. She refills our wine.

"I am almost already full." I laugh.

"I want a picture of our main dish," Adam says.

"What, why?"

"Social media," he laughs.

I roll my eyes. Adam snaps a picture of my food and his, now one of us together. He walks over to my chair and puts his arms around me.

"Selfie," he says, taking a picture.

"You're too much." I laugh.

"We have to document this for when we are married," he smirks.

I roll my eyes.

I take a bite of my Raviolis. It was simply delicious. The creamy sauce warms my throat. I hear my phone ding. It was a notification for my social media account. Adam tagged you in a post, I read. I look at our picture. The caption read dinner with my girl. And there were already 105 reactions to the post.

We are a beautiful couple. It's the truth. Almost the perfect couple.

I hear another notification ding. Corey commented on a post you were tagged in, I read. Oh no! This is going to be a mess.

Wow, that beats frozen pizza. He commented.

And Adam will see that. I notice many friends react with laughing faces.

"What was that all about frozen pizza?" Adam asks.

"Nothing important, we hung out at his house and had pizza."

"I told you he's trouble." He tells me.

" He's nice to me."

"If that's what you like," he says.

"We are just friends."

"I wouldn't be friends with someone who feeds me frozen pizza," he laughs.

I roll my eyes. "Food is food."

"Maybe if you're poor, we are not Sadie," he says.

I always hate the word poor. Why is there a word to describe, what less money you have? He may not have a lot of money, but he is rich in love. He has that little girl in his life, and that's what's important.

Soon, I am in my driveway with Adam. Dinner is over. I had a fun time, though it was just normal time with Adam.

He moves the hair from my face. He looks into my eyes.

"I love spending time with you," he says.

"Me too."

"You know how I feel about you," he tells me.

I nod. I don't feel the same.

His face starts inching closer toward mine. I feel his breath on my face. It sends butterflies in my stomach.

His lips land on mine. He kisses me, and I kiss him back. He runs his hand through my hair.

Kissing him wasn't as horrible as I thought. Though I feel guilty because Corey is still on my mind.

Our lips pull apart. He grabs my face in his hands. I smile. "You're so beautiful."

"Thanks." I feel my cheeks turn red.

"Just think about what it would be like with me vs Corey," he says.

I nod. "Corey and I are just friends."

"I know, just if you were thinking you want to be more," he responds.

"Just don't tell my mom about me and Corey hanging out today. I don't want him removed from the assignment, he needs this."

"I won't," he says.

" Thanks."

"See you soon," he tells me.

"Sooner than later?"

He laughs. "You know it."

I open the car and step out. I watch him drive away. Closing my eyes, I remember our kiss. Then I also remember Corey's face.
