Chapter 2- Scheduling Snobs

Gathering the last boxes we end up making an old fashion pallet on the floor and knocking out. At the meek hours of the morning though did the knocking on the door finally get annoying.

"Don't these people ever sleep?" Auntie grumbled getting up from the pallet across from me. I grumble something back but it's so incoherent into the pillow all I receive is a 'WTF' kind of look.

Disappearing into the front hall the connects most of the house the door gives an eerie creak.

"We got to get some WD-40 for that later."

I can hear Auntie say before another more cheerful voice cuts in.

"Good morning neighbor! My name is Angela, this is my Daughter Piper and we would like to welcome you to the neighborhood."

"So waking people up at the crack of dawn is a good morning... good to know..." Auntie grumbled. "Look, good morning but we just had a long day of unpacking and bring stuff in and me and my boy are tired. Could you maybe come back in about an hour? Or two? Just until I get my coffee machine up."

Getting up from the pallet I shuffle toward the front door peeking passed Auntie and to the new neighbors.

"Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't realize you had done all that yesterday we would have come help if we knew." Angela's voice seemed almost mocking but as she nearly shoves the strange looking casserole into Aunties arms she pulls an almost broken smile. "We'll, you already spoke to my husband and son yesterday and—" Her attention immediately lands on me and for a second I'm tempted to run for it. "Oh, you must be that boy with the skin condition."

With that, the door is slammed in her face. Curses fall from Aunties lips faster then I could keep up as she shoves the casserole into a trash bag before pulling out the glass container it was brought in and heading for the kitchen.

"Ooooh, I'm so damn sick of some people's ignorance." She snaps throwing her arms in the air. "It's like they never seen anyone like you before. Seriously are we in the stone ages! Internet people!" She continues to rant as she puts the container in the sink.

"It's okay Auntie I should get used to it if I haven't already by now." I spoke hoping up onto the kitchen counter. The sharp glare I receive though shoos me right back off as I smirk.

"You just know I hate when people are so oblivious."

"It's one of the main reason we left the last place we were at right?" I ask.

"Exactly." She exhales a weight seeming to lift off her shoulders as we leave the kitchen and step back into the living room where our nightly pallets lay disheveled. "Do you want to get started now?" She bends down grabbing her phone off the floor. "Or." She checks the time. "In another three hours?"

"Three hours sounds good. Nap time." I shrug getting back under my covers and pulling the blanket over my head.

Those three hours went by in a flash as I'm awoken to rough shaking by and a swift nudge by a shoe.

"Huh?" Sitting up I stretch and scratch my side. "Morning." I mumble. Pushing up off the floor.

"Good morning sleepy head." Auntie walks out of the living room as soon as I get to my feet. The smell of breakfast hitting me in the face as soon as I stepped out into the hall.

"Smells delicious!"

Rushing into the kitchen Auntie already has two plates stacked high with eggs, bacon, toast, and some orange slices. Taking my plate from her I lean against the counter and take a bite of fruit.

"So, What's on the agenda today?" I ask between mouthfuls of fruit, toast, and a bit of egg.

"First I got to get you complete registered in school. Next, we finish putting stuff up , and Last but not least we got to chose our rooms."

"I call the master bedroom!" I shout raising a hand.

"Oh hell no you don't! That rooms mine stink bug!" She retorts taking a bite of toast. "You'll get the next biggest room." She continues with a firm nod.

"Ah man..." I pout finishing off the orange slices before putting the empty plate in the sink. "Next time."

"In your dreams kid, in your dreams." She smiles finishing her plate and putting it in the sink. "Now go make yourself presentable we got a principle to wow."

Giving her a mock salute I shout over my shoulder. "Yes Ma'am!" Eyeing each box, I finally find the one that has my name on it before pulling it out, and opening it up. "No, no, definitely not... ahha this will be great." Going through the clothes I pluck an old worn grey t-shirt, dark blue jeans, and a faded green plaided flannel from within. "Perfect."

Heading upstairs I step into he bathroom and quickly clean myself up, dress, and rush back down stairs just as Auntie was stepping out of the master bedroom. Braids fixed and tied in a loose bun.

Going back through the boxes I find my black and purple beanie and throw it on.

"Tada!" I announce throwing my arms out.

"You clean up quick slick." She approves, stepping passed me and towards the door where she goes on her work shoes. Grabbing my sneakers I pull them on and hop out the door.

"Let's do this!"

Nodding we back up, unhook the U-Haul, and make our way back into town. Finding the school wasn't as hard as we had first thought. Pulling into he near empty parking lot.

"This is the school right?" Auntie questioned eyeing the building suspiciously.

"That's what my phone says." I respond showing her the map.

"We'll this is a little town so I'm not surprised." She shrugs turning the car off and stepping out.

Following quickly behind her we strode into the school, the receptionist barely raising a brow as Auntie leaned against the high counter.

"Hi, I'm Mrs. Mortimer and I believe you got the transfer papers for my son here." She motions towards me before placing her hands out in front of her.

"Yes, yes... we have you right here." The older woman smiled softly pulling out a small file. "The Principle has already come up with a schedule and will expect him to follow it to a T." The smile twists into a slight sneer as she looks from the papers to myself, then to my Auntie who gives her a look.

"Is there a problem?"

"Oh no, no it's fine. You have a lovely boy here." She announces waving her hands in defense.

"Good to know thanks." Auntie folded her arms over her chest as the receptionist slide over a paper. Snatching it off the counter she hands it to me before turning to wave the receptionist off. "Have a good day dear."

"He'll be expected Monday at 6 for prep!" She shouts.

"Understood he'll be there!" Auntie shouts back over her shoulder. Ushering me back out the door and back to the car. "I might have to call the hospital when we get home."

"Why?" I question her, pulling the passenger door open and climbing in. Getting comfortable I look over my schedule.

"I think they have your old file, not your up to date." She mumbles revving the engine and pulling out of the parking lot.

"Well if they went by the school you sent them then there shouldn't be any problems... Right?"

"Hopefully."
