Chapter 20 : Lincoln (Present)

"She's not walking up; I don't know why!" "Crystal? Crystal?!" "Send her back in, send her back in quick. We don't know what'll happen to her if she wakes up unnoticed. Send her back in, Ann!" "Why isn't she waking up? What's going on in her memories? Why aren't we able to see them anymore?" "Send her back in Ann, whatever is happening right now, it's better if she stays asleep."

It was strange.

Before, whenever he heard the word 'alien', an abnormal creature with three legs, three eyes or anything relatively bizarre would pop up in his mind. But as he walked beside an alvan, he began to realize humans do exaggerate things a lot. Aytrex looked like just any human, while the orange hair did stand out, Lincoln supposed humans could dye their hair orange too if they wanted. Some humans are born with orange hair, but not as dark as Aytrex's.

Aytrex's diamond-shaped eyes, however, did stand out.

Most cities, like Imperiale, no longer had roads on the ground but they did have wide pavements between most buildings. This was because there were still some people who preferred to travel by other means, walking, hovercycling, hoverscating and so on. Some did it for exercise and some did it for leisure purposes.

Aytrex suggested they took a walk, there was more he wanted to explain to Lincoln, and he also wanted a look around the city. With the spare time in Lincoln's hands and the urge to know more, he agreed.

He glanced at the alvan and had a random thought to what kind of energy signatures were inside of him. He switched to his energy vision and what he saw surprised him. Inside the alvan were two different coloured energy signatures, one of them was a darker shade of green than what humans had, which Lincoln depicted as the alvan's nature energy. However, the other was sky blue, a much lighter shade than Lincoln's kinetic energy, and he could also immediately feel that it wasn't kinetic, what was it then?

"What kind of energy roams in you alvans?" Lincoln whispered to himself.

Aytrex however, had heard the question. "There are two types of alvans; the Wielders and the Normals. The wielders are the ones with abilities and the normals are the ones without. You can use these terms to distinguish humans in a few years to come." Aytrex explained. Lincoln nodded; he knew exactly what Aytrex meant.

As far as he knew the German organization would be making more wielders like Edgar and Lincoln. And it would likely spread once the wielders have children, and then there would be a community of powered individuals all over Earth. Something Lincoln knew the Guardians took account for.

"Wielders have a special type of energy, something that should reside in human wielders as well. It's called Charge, the light blue energy you saw inside me. Charge is the source of our ability, the battery for it, and it's primarily physical or spiritual energy. Some powers are physical and some are spiritual. Energy manipulators are both." Aytrex continued.

"No," Lincoln spoke. Aytrex stopped and turned to him, "What do you mean?" He asked. Lincoln became confused too then, "I meant, about humans having 'charge', I don't have anything like charge and I checked the energy signatures that resided in our prisoner wielders and they just had one, which is green, which I call Nature energy." Lincoln explained. "Here in Alvanian we call that Life energy, but go on," Aytrex spoke.

"I only have four types of energies. Green, red, blue and the purple one which I have no idea about." Lincoln clarified. "That is indeed strange, our energy manipulator had five signatures, the same as yours and a lighter shade of blue which we call charge," Aytrex replied. "Maybe us humans don't need charge?" Lincoln implied.

"That is impossible. If that were the case all humans would be wielders even without an artefact. No, even the alvans who were born with these abilities still have charge in them. It's just impossible for any being to wield abilities with no source of power, be it charge or something else." Aytrex explained, his voice slowly toning down to that of concern.

"That doesn't make sense, then how do we do what we do, without a source?" Lincoln asked, not quite getting anything. "I'm not sure, but it's best if we check the prisoners once again, maybe you missed out on something," Aytrex replied with finality. "Sure, we can do that but I don't think-" Lincoln tried to say but was cut off when Aytrex placed an arm on his shoulder before teleporting them both away.

They reappeared in the Imperiale state prison, in front of Edgar's cell. "Give me a warning next time, will you?" Lincoln said, as his eyes adjusted to the darkness of the prison. "Apologies, I will do so next time," Aytrex said. Lincoln ignored the alvan and looked at the prisoner. The time manipulator was fast asleep, so Lincoln got a look at Edgar's skeletal system. ''What the hell?" He whispered.

"What is it?" Aytrex asked. "His nature energy, it looks very weird. I can see part of all the particles having a slight blue tint to it. It's hard to distinguish unless I focus on them, but it's there nevertheless." Lincoln explained. "Let me take a look," Aytrex said. "How-" Lincoln tried to ask but was cut off again when Aytrex touched the back of his head with three of his fingers.

Lincoln suddenly lost control of his energy vision, and his eyes zoomed in once again on Edgar's nature energy signature. "I see..." Aytrex said, his voice not hiding his concern anymore. "You have two abilities?" Lincoln asked once Aytrex released his control over him. "One of them is borrowed," Aytrex explained. "I suppose that's the one you used on me now?" Lincoln turned to him and asked. "Yes, I borrowed it just for this, and now it's gone," Aytrex replied. "How does that work?" Lincoln asked. "I'll explain another time, right now we have a more important matter on our hands," Aytrex replied. "And what is that?" Lincoln asked.

"This man's days are numbered."
