Lincoln was both embarrassed and disappointed.
It had not been Naomi after all, but a mere life form that resembled her created out of nature energy. Lincoln saw he could make the life form resemble anyone, even himself, and was embarrassed at how the first person that came to his mind had been Naomi. He sighed and decided he'll call this life form a clone.
The clone looked just like Lincoln now, and he realized how useful it was. His escape seemed even closer now, and a plan slowly formed in his head.
He created more clones and had them do different things. They had the same offence and defence Lincoln had with his kinetic energy, and so they were able to fire blasts or create blades of energy. However, they weren't durable, and a few blasts of energy were already enough to destroy them. They were still useful enough, and he was amazed he was able to do this much with his ability.
Before he could ponder on it further, he heard a soldier announce that his field time was over and that they had to get back to the compound. Lincoln disappeared and reappeared near the scientists, startling them as he did so. The collar then beeped signalling that Lincoln would be moving to another location, and so he followed the scientists to a flying military vehicle.
The drive was going to be a long one as the compound was an hour away. Lincoln sighed as the car started up and lifted into the air.
ONE YEAR LATER
He had to pretend. Hitting the targets were now a cakewalk but for the scientists to get distracted, he had to keep doing it.
He turned his attention to the glass wall to see four scientists currently in the laboratory. Two were watching him while the other two were experimenting on his DNA. None of them seemed to know that Lincoln's clone was somewhere in the building gathering more information for his escape plan.
He had it all in check now all he had to do was somehow kill the boss before his escape, but he already knew how to do that.
Unlike Lincoln, his clones didn't have collars on. This is because he's not duplicating himself but creating something that looks like him, he could also make his clones look like anyone he wants. This is how his clone collected the information he needed, looking like the soldier he had killed when the poor man had pushed Lincoln while he wore those electrified cuffs.
Once he saw all the lights in the lab go off, Lincoln approached his bed and laid on it.
He pictured his clone and closed his eyes.
He opened them a few moments later and he was in a different place. He looked at himself satisfied; his clone found a disguise that looked just like the soldiers'. He then made his way to the top floor using the staircase. The top floor was where the boss's house complex was situated. If his clone had a heart, it would have been racing by now, Lincoln knew they would kill him immediately if they found out he could use his clones this way.
He spotted a surveillance camera in one of the corridors and disappeared to reappear past the camera, he was much closer to his destination. However, unlike his original body, which was many times more compatible with energy than his clone, just this small movement between corridors took a toll on Lincoln.
The clone had already begun disintegrating.
All Lincoln needed to do was to somehow get the depleted nature energy of his clone into the boss's house complex, and he could handle things from there. Lincoln neared the door, the only one in the whole building with a beautiful rotating sphere.
He found no guards outside the place which meant they were inside with the boss. Lincoln disintegrated his clone and worked fast, as mere nature energy at this point, Lincoln felt his consciousness being pulled back by his body, the longer he stays like this the more risk he has of dying.
Without a second thought, he moved through the small space under the door and returned to his body.
He woke up with a gasp and quickly closed his eyes, He saw that his third-person view was expanded even more and his skeletal system was now zoomed out of this view.
To the far left, he could see the nature energy he left in the boss's place. His energy vision was a bird's eye view of the energy he had control over. He took the risk by quickly coming to his body and catching the energy he left behind in the housing complex before he lost control over it.
Lincoln chuckled at how much flexibility he had with just this view.
He attempted to channel the nature energy in his core to where he left his disintegrated clone and it very slowly left him and made its way towards the boss's place. It would take at least five minutes for it to reach because of all the alternate routes the green energy would have to take to reach its destination.
After all, energy couldn't move through objects very easily.
He sighed and looked at the clock in his bedroom. Thankfully, time was something he had plenty of, and he figured no one has suspected anything so far, so he figured he'd go over his plan again.
He experimented with his clones ever since he found out he could create them. One day, he realized he was able to transfer his consciousness to his clone for a short amount of time. However, this process exhausted him and which is why he is currently lying on his bed replenishing his stamina for a second round.
He planned to send a clone to understand the building's structure and find the best route to get to the boss's place undetected, and once it did that, he planned to take control of it and send the remaining nature energy of this clone under the boss's door and into the living room Lincoln was brought into when he was first granted this ability. He then planned to transfer more nature energy into that room, and create a clone once again, this clone will find the boss and kill him at Lincoln's command.
The plan seemed foolproof, and Lincoln hoped it would work.
Once the nature energy had reached the room, Lincoln gave the command for the creation of the clone. Now for my escape. He thought to himself and got off the bed.
He thrust both his arms forward and transferred as much kinetic energy in between them as possible. He needed enough force to destroy the sturdy bulletproof glasses, and for that, he would be needing a lot of kinetic energy.
Thankfully, Lincoln had replenished as much as he could.
A ball of energy slowly formed and started growing between his palms as the room was lit up in red. The light had woken up the soldiers and scientists, and Lincoln made eye contact with them, a smirk slowly forming on his face. He hurled the huge energy ball towards them, and they screamed as it made contact with the glass, shattering it into millions of pieces before going past it and destroying the room and people in it.
Two clones appeared next to Lincoln in a matter of seconds, "Find the key." He ordered, pointing to his collar, which was the only thing keeping Lincoln from escaping right away. The clones leapt, through the dust and debris, into the room where the scientists experimented, the room which Lincoln had just destroyed.
Lincoln figured he'd transfer his consciousness into the clone that was set out to kill while he waited for the other clones to find the key, and so he made his way to the bed. And that's when he realized, the clone in the boss's room was destroyed long ago.
"Shit," Lincoln said and dodged an energy blast that was coming towards him.
More blasts came at him, but Lincoln quickly formed a shield, deflecting them. However, he didn't know how long he could hold this on for, the energy ball he just hurled had consumed 90% of his kinetic energy, and considering how things were going, Lincoln didn't have the luxury to replenish it.
Lincoln jumped from his spot, avoiding a rain of blasts as he created platforms of energy and jumped from one another trying to dodge as many attacks as he could.
Lincoln had no more strength to create a clone, and so he just dodged the blasts. But how long would he be able to keep this up for?
His question went unanswered as two machine-poisoned knives hit Lincoln's shoulder and knee, he screamed in pain as the poison flowed through his system and weakened him greatly. "No..." He said and looked around for the attacker.
He could make out a familiar form of the boss walking out of the smoke, "Looks like I was the faster one." He said with a proud and mischievous smile.
At that moment Lincoln started to feel hopeless when he saw the boss take another machine-poisoned knife. The boss slowly held the knife near Lincoln's throat. "You could've been our ultimate weapon, yet you remain stubborn, loyal to your falling country. What drove you to be like this? Please don't tell me it was the death of your parents. That would be too childish." The boss retorted with a chuckle. Hearing that made something inside Lincoln click as he threw a fist at the boss only to be caught by the man's free hand.
It was true, ever since the death of his parents, Lincoln wanted so much to join the military and protect his country from everything. His parents' deaths were not the first but Lincoln wanted to make them the last. He wanted to join the military, and get the position of general.
Hearing his intentions being called childish aggravated him, and his will to kill this man only increased.
"Still fighting little guy?" The boss asked and crushed Lincoln's hand with so much force that he screamed in agony trying to suppress the pain he was feeling all over his body. He could just flicker away to somewhere else in the room, but he still had the collar on him, so escape would still be impossible and he was too weak and slow, so the boss would get him again.
He had no more kinetic energy left; he was defeated.
"War is an interesting thing. Some people join it after the deaths of people they love to trigger them. Then they end up killing hundreds of people like it was nothing, completely forgetting their motives behind joining the army. Of course, the people we killed were innocent, just like your parents. But the end goal here is the power we will get if we take over countries, and then we would get money. Your parents were just unlucky to be caught up in that mess." The boss continued, with a shrug.
Lincoln struggled, he wanted so much to blast the boss's head off, but he couldn't access any more energy. Was this how it ends?
"For centuries and more to come, all that would ever matter in the end is money and power. People die, but that doesn't mean that this world would change. There's nothing you could do about billions of people. So just give up and join us, we'll be sure to reward you handsomely." The boss offered. Lincoln shook his head weakly. "I see. Canada will soon be under my control. With this power to grant others abilities, I will gradually take over this world. I will make a revolution!" The boss yelled; his voice full of glee.
He then looked down and made eye contact with Lincoln.
"And you, sadly, would not be able to experience it." The boss then raised his knife to deliver a final blow. However, before the boss could make another move, he was suddenly sent flying to the other side of the room by a red energy blast. Lincoln then saw a glimpse of black coming towards him as he caught the incoming key card, scanned the lock with it and waited.
The nature energy of the clone that saved him returned to Lincoln. The collar came off and Lincoln almost instantly disappeared, a rain of blasts flew past the spot where he was just standing, and the boss yelled in frustration
He reappeared in the destroyed experimenting room and disappeared once again. All he had was plasma energy and he was too weak to try to replenish his kinetic energy. In the end, he couldn't go with his plan to kill the boss, which meant he'll have many enemies in the future.
Lincoln reappeared outside the room and disappeared once again.
He would have to keep repeating this until he reached the elevator, and then it was up to him to escape the facility. Two clones appeared next to Lincoln, these only possessed nature energy, and their job was to assist Lincoln in his escape.
Once he finally reached the elevator, they helped him enter it and he sighed. Familiar soft music played in the elevator's background as Lincoln descended to the bottom. The descending of the elevator created kinetic energy which was immediately sucked up by Lincoln's body, however, this was not enough and so he got his clones to punch the walls of the elevator to give Lincoln as much kinetic energy as he could get.
In a moment he'll be ready for an escape, even if he was to fight again for it.
