Chapter 36: Spreading Wings

The number of vampires was overwhelming, even though Olivia was seasoned in battles, she was now exhausted with several injuries and blood flowing profusely. As a true human supernatural, her blood carried an enchanting allure for the vampires, and they relentlessly pursued her scent.

Olivia found herself surrounded by vampires, one of them swiftly sinking its fangs into her arm and drawing several sips of blood. Olivia fought fiercely to break free, tearing off a piece of flesh in the process. The pain furrowed her brow, and as she instinctively reached to support her injured arm, more vampires took advantage of the opening, swarming her and gnashing their teeth, eager to rip her apart.

With her blood rapidly draining from her body, Olivia felt her consciousness fading and her strength diminishing. She was too weak to escape their clutches and could only endure as countless vampires sank their teeth into her, some even turning on each other in a frenzy to claim her blood.

In the midst of the chaos, a vampire was knocked down and fell towards Olivia. Its elongated nails precisely pierced her chest, four of them deeply penetrating her flesh, with three of them piercing her heart.

Emily, consumed by madness, hurled her dagger at the vampire. The dagger pierced the vampire's throat, causing it to collapse onto Olivia's body, instantly turning into a lifeless corpse.

Emily gritted her teeth, seething with anger as she glared at Alexander. She shouted, "Alexander! If anything happens to Olivia, I'll make sure you pay with your life!" Her furious roar reverberated through the night sky, momentarily freezing everyone present. They all stared at Alexander, their eyes filled with astonishment.

Alexander remained composed, making a hand gesture that signaled the others to continue their attack.

Emily was brimming with anger, her rage threatening to burst out and incinerate all the vampires who had feasted on Olivia. Fearlessly, she locked her gaze on Olivia's direction and began advancing step by step. Her body seemed to possess an unknown wellspring of power. Anyone who stood in her way met a swift end, their heads twisted off. Gradually, people started to fear her, and no one dared to approach her. Eventually, they instinctively parted to make way for her.

Benjamin also fought his way through, creating a path towards Emily. The vampires who had been feeding on Olivia appeared lost and completely uncontrollable. Their eyes remained fixated on Emily, while their bodies trembled with fear. Their teeth continued to sink into Olivia's body, extracting her blood.

Emily let out a furious roar and swiftly snapped the necks of the vampires, her eyes bloodshot. Her once beautiful face now appeared grotesque and horrifying. She cradled Olivia in her arms, who was on the brink of death, barely breathing with a pale and bloodless complexion, stained with a mixture of her own blood and vampire blood, the scents blending together.

"It'll be fine, it'll be fine..." Emily frantically bit her finger, smearing the blood onto Olivia's wound. She murmured incoherently, unsure if she was comforting herself or Olivia.

However, for some unknown reason, even with Emily's blood, Olivia's wound refused to heal. She remained weak.

"What's happening? How can this be?" Emily widened her eyes in disbelief. Her own blood, which usually aided Olivia's healing, seemed utterly useless at this critical moment. Why wasn't it working this time?

Her gaze fell on the nails embedded in Olivia's chest. Just as Emily was about to remove them, Benjamin grabbed her wrist. "Don't remove them! If you do, she'll die!"

"What do we do then?" Emily screamed in a state of panic. "Tell me, what do we do?"

All the vampires surrounded them but dared not approach. They were curious about what was happening. Alexander jumped onto a nearby tree and observed the scene inside the circle for a while, but couldn't discern anything significant.

Olivia's eyes fluttered open, and she made a feeble attempt to reach for Benjamin. Her voice barely audible, she said, "Benjamin, quickly, drink my blood! Enhance your abilities, protect Emily..."

"No!" Emily shook her head frantically, tears streaming down her face. "No! It's not allowed! I refuse!"

"Emily... don't be stubborn..." Olivia weakly reassured her. "This is the only way we can survive. Please... let Benjamin drink my blood..."

"No!" Emily continued to shake her head desperately, tears blurring her vision and Olivia's face.

"Emily... Olivia is right..." Benjamin made a quick decision, took Olivia into his arms, and bared his sharp fangs, sinking them into Olivia's neck.

"No!" A piercing cry filled the air as Emily forcefully pushed Benjamin away, distancing him. Olivia's breath grew weaker, and Emily ruthlessly cut her own wrist, allowing the blood to drip onto Olivia's neck. However, the wound refused to heal, only slowing down the bleeding without stopping it.

Benjamin stood up, clutching his chest, surveying the surroundings. The horde was overwhelming, a sea of bodies stretching endlessly. His gaze inadvertently met Alexander's, who was visibly smiling. In that gaze, Benjamin saw his own despair. Was today the day they were fated to die here?

"What are you all standing around for? Attack!" Alexander commanded, and the vampires crazily lunged forward.

"Ah~" Emily held Olivia tightly, let out a mournful scream into the sky. She gently laid Olivia down, her gaze suddenly fixated on the vampires with bloodstained mouths. Like a demon, she charged forward, bare-handed, slicing a vampire in half, then a second, a third... Every vampire that had Olivia's blood on them was cleaved in two by Emily.

From the other side of the encirclement, sounds of a battle suddenly erupted. Alexander looked over and saw a person wielding a wooden sword, striking fast, fierce, and accurate. Almost every strike pierced the vampires' chests. In no time, 16 vampires had turned to ashes.

Alexander narrowed his eyes. Could this be the legendary Bloodblade?

A smile crept onto his face as if he had obtained a priceless treasure. Excitedly, he issued the command, "Capture the Bloodblade alive! Use him as a sacrifice for the Crimson Moon Festival!"

Upon hearing "Crimson Moon Festival," the vampires became even more frenzied, as if they had been injected with chicken blood. They swarmed towards the Bloodblade, paying no attention to Emily. She took the opportunity to sever the hand of one vampire, unable to remove the nails. She picked up Olivia and gave Benjamin a signal, preparing to escape.

However, after running only a few steps, they heard Alexander shout, "Capture them!" and another group of vampires surrounded them, blocking their path.

Emily reluctantly placed Olivia on the ground and joined the fight. A vampire picked up Emily's dagger and unexpectedly lunged at Benjamin. Benjamin couldn't evade in time and took a harsh blow to his chest. Luckily, the blade missed his heart by a small margin, but Benjamin collapsed, blood gushing from his chest.

Emily was stunned, filled with grief and anger. A piercing scream tore through the night sky. The scream was like that of a demon, emanating an eerie and terrifying aura. It struck fear into the hearts of all the vampires, causing them to tightly shut their eyes and cover their ears. The scream felt like a demonic hand, fiercely gripping their hearts, inflicting unbearable pain upon them.

As the scream faded away, and they opened their eyes again, they noticed that Emily had sprouted a pair of wings on her back. They resembled swan wings, but they were black, emitting a faint glow. In the moonlight, she appeared like a fallen angel in the mortal realm...
