Emily flapped her wings a few times, lifting the heavily injured Benjamin and Olivia into the air. Some vampires jumped up, attempting to grab them, but Emily flew high, soon disappearing from their sight.
Glancing downward, Emily saw that the bloodthirst had been subdued. Although she felt guilty, Benjamin and Olivia were more important to her.
I'm sorry, Bloodthirst.
Emily silently apologized in her heart as she flew away.
After flying over a mountain, Emily slowly descended. She carefully set Benjamin and Olivia down. Undeterred, she once again slashed her wrist and let the blood drip onto Olivia's wound. However, it was still futile. Her eyes gradually became dull and eventually filled with despair.
"Emily..." Benjamin weakly opened his eyes, observing Emily's wings without much surprise. He had grown accustomed to her astonishing transformations. She remained an enigmatic existence, and even if she suddenly turned into a monster or a demon, Benjamin seemed unfazed by it.
"Can't we perform the Blood Embrace ritual to turn her into a vampire?" Emily, tears streaming down her face, thought of this option once again in that fleeting moment. Perhaps this was the only way to save Olivia.
However, Benjamin shook his head. Olivia's family had a blood contract with vampires, a covenant bound by blood. Olivia bore the mark of the contract, and unless the mark was released, she could never become a vampire. Moreover, considering Olivia's current weakened state, even if the ritual were possible, it would be utterly unsuccessful.
Emily's eyes dimmed once more, filled with despair.
Emily's eyes reignited with hope as she anxiously asked, "So where is the wand?"
Benjamin shook his head once again, explaining that the wand, originally belonging to the elven Water God, possesses the power of healing. After being cursed by the vampire clan, it can awaken new abilities in vampire members and even unlock the potential in humans or animals. The wand is the only hope to save Olivia, but its whereabouts remain unknown.
"So what do we do then?" Emily's voice trembled with a hint of tears. Even if they knew where the wand was, obtaining it would require time and effort. Olivia's life couldn't wait that long; she could stop breathing at any moment. Every second now was of utmost importance.
"Don't panic just yet," Benjamin said, clutching his chest as he tried to console her.
"How can I not panic?"
Benjamin lowered his head, pondering for a moment. "You're familiar with cryogenic technology, aren't you?"
Emily paused, not understanding Benjamin's intention.
Growing more convinced of this method, Benjamin's eyes lit up as he continued to explain, "We can freeze Olivia for a while, buying some time to keep her alive. Then, we can search for the wand. Perhaps there's still hope!"
Emily looked at Olivia, who was barely clinging to life. Freezing her, could it really work?
"We don't have time to hesitate. Let's go to the nearest town, find a hospital, and I'll hypnotize a doctor," Benjamin said, struggling to get up but only falling back down.
"You can't go in your current state..." Emily supported Benjamin, preventing him from falling again. She then lamented, "Why is it that I can't perform hypnosis?"
"Maybe you can! Give it a try!" Benjamin encouraged her with a hopeful gaze. "Focus your attention, your mind must be strong. Use your telekinetic power to control others' thoughts. During hypnosis, your mind must be free from distractions, only thinking about what you want them to do. Come on, try hypnotizing me!"
Emily hesitated, looking at him. Benjamin nodded firmly, as if giving her strength. Emily stared intently into his eyes. "Poke your own nostril!"
Benjamin burst into laughter, and the laughter caused blood to flow even more uncontrollably from his chest. He held his chest tightly, his body shaking from the laughter.
Emily didn't find her words funny at all. She fell to the ground. "I can't do it at all!"
Benjamin held back his laughter. In fact, he had felt a momentary grip on his thoughts by Emily just now, but it was only for a brief moment. Perhaps with a few more attempts, she would succeed. After all, controlling humans is much easier than controlling vampires.
"Try again, you were close to success just now!" Benjamin continued to encourage her.
"Really?" Hope ignited in Emily's eyes once again. She stared at Benjamin's eyes intently. "Bite your tongue!"
"Ah!"
Benjamin indeed bit his own tongue, jolted awake by the pain. He bit it quite hard, but his face was filled with surprise. "Emily!"
"I did it!" Emily clapped her hands, dancing with joy. "I really did it!"
"No time to waste, hurry, go! I'll wait for you here!" Benjamin urged her, realizing that his current condition would only be a burden if he followed Emily.
Emily hesitated. Benjamin was injured by her own dagger, and the wound was not healing. If he stayed here like this, he would be defenseless if Lessenbar's people caught up to them. He couldn't even fight back now.
"Go quickly! I won't die so easily! If you don't go now, Olivia will truly have no hope!" Benjamin noticed Emily's concern and casually said.
Emily gritted her teeth. "Then wait for me!" She picked up Olivia, spread her wings, and flew into the sky.
"Hey! Bring me some food!" Benjamin shouted into the sky, but Emily had disappeared without a trace. Benjamin shook his head helplessly. Even if she heard him, she wouldn't bring any food. Emily couldn't bring herself to harm humans.
Benjamin felt a sense of relief, as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. He lay on the ground, peacefully gazing at the night sky. If he were to die like this, it wouldn't be so bad. However, ever since he met Emily, he seemed to have a desire to live and a deeper understanding of life.
"Do you like her?" A man suddenly appeared in front of Benjamin.
Benjamin recognized the unique aura and characteristics of a vampire in this man. However, he didn't seem very friendly, but there was also no hostility.
"Who are you?" Benjamin countered.
"You don't need to worry about who I am. I'm here just to tell you that Emily is my prey. Trespassers die!" The man's stern face carried both provocation and authority.
Benjamin was taken aback. The oppressive aura emanating from this man was identical to Boris. Who was he?
He carefully examined the man in front of him and suddenly recalled a silhouette he had seen when Boris took him to rescue Alexander. That figure seemed similar to the person standing before him now.
During that rescue mission, Benjamin arrived late. When he got there, he saw Alexander severely wounded, an infuriated Boris, and scattered bodies on the ground. Finally, there was the laughter and silhouette of a man.
The image gradually surfaced in Benjamin's mind, and he felt a hint of fear.
"You don't have to be afraid!" The man's lips curled into a sardonic smile. "Until I take care of your impolite brother, I won't take your life. But remember, Emily is mine!"
After saying that, the man left. His speed was so swift that Benjamin felt as if he had been caught in a gust of wind. He couldn't even catch a glimpse of the man's departing figure before he disappeared...
