Chapter 41: Give Yourself to Me!

"You humans are always so quick to believe what your eyes see!" The man scoffed, leaning slightly backward as if there was something in front of him that scared him.

He turned around in the car, surveying his surroundings. He picked up a leftover bedsheet and unfolded it to block the car window. Not satisfied, he grabbed a bed cover from the backseat and added another layer. Then, he looked back at the astonished Emily.

Emily watched his nonchalant actions and roared in her mind. Did he think this was his home or something?!

"Let me out! Let me out!" Benjamin's desperate cries echoed from the trunk. "Emily, you're murdering your own husband! You adulterous couple, let me out! I'll catch you and drown you in a pig cage!..."

"What are you staring at? Do you think I'm too good-looking?" The man noticed Emily's wide-open mouth and mischievously leaned closer. "Go ahead, keep looking. I'm not shy. I'll let you have a good look!"

Benjamin was being ignored.

Emily delivered a punch to the man's face, and from between his clenched teeth, two words squeezed out, "Narcissistic fool!"

The man dramatically held his seemingly unharmed face. "You've ruined my appearance! You'll be responsible for this!"

"Responsible my ass!" Benjamin cursed loudly from the trunk.

"Ruined your appearance? Where did I ruin it?" Emily gritted her teeth and spoke with seething anger, looking at him as the imminent threat he was.

Benjamin's pleas were ignored once again.

"Look! Look!" the man in the car leaned closer, pointing at his own face. "See, it's turning red! You're responsible for this! Offer yourself to me!"

"Damn it! I'll kill you!" Benjamin cursed from the trunk.

Emily observed the man's flawless and unrealistically beautiful face. "Can vampires even blush?" she wondered aloud.

Benjamin's protests continued to be ignored.

"I don't care. You belong to me. I've already claimed you as mine!" the man stubbornly asserted.

"Mine! Mine!" Benjamin shouted angrily from the trunk.

"Who's back there making so much noise?" the man glared toward the back. If it weren't for the sunlight outside, he would have gone back there and silenced Benjamin, ensuring he could never make a sound again.

"Mind your own business!" Emily rolled her eyes.

"You are my prey! No one else dares to covet you!" the man shouted defiantly. However, the thought of Alexander, the one who coveted Emily, still being unresolved, left him feeling frustrated. Alexander's power was inferior, but he was incredibly cunning, like a slippery eel. The man couldn't seem to catch him no matter how hard he tried. They had been engaged in a cat-and-mouse game for a month now.

"I dare! I dare!" Benjamin finally managed to raise one hand from the trunk, as if someone could actually see it.

"If you don't shut up, I'll feed you to the wolves!" the man threatened with irritation.

"If you have the guts, face me one-on-one! Stop acting like a coward!" Benjamin roared with anger.

"You're not even worthy of being my grandson, let alone calling me a coward!" the man raised an eyebrow. "Remember, my name is Eurydice!" The man then grabbed Emily's hand abruptly and said, "Little Emily, you can call me Eury."

"Well, you have a point!" Emily pulled her hand back, noticing that the fog outside the car window was getting thicker and obstructing their view. She really didn't want to argue with him anymore.

"If you agree that I have a point, then you should take responsibility for what I said. You can't be unreasonable, right?" Eurydice continued to speak nonchalantly.

In the mist, Emily faintly saw three figures approaching them. She stared nervously at those figures, paying no attention to Eurydice.

"They're finally here!" Eurydice glanced at the three figures, appearing unconcerned.

"What should we do now? Who are they?" Emily's expression became grave. The sense of helplessness from not being able to see their opponents made her uneasy.

Eurydice smirked arrogantly. "Women."

Emily rolled her eyes. "Be serious for once!"

"Ah," Eurydice lowered his gaze and smiled even more charmingly, "three very beautiful women!"

"...Damn it!"

"Come on," Eurydice moved closer to Emily again, even leaning his shoulder towards her and hooking their arms together. "Let me lean on you!"

"Ah~" Emily let out a cry of exasperation. She didn't know whether to cry or laugh when faced with such a rascal.

"Alright, alright!" Eurydice patted Emily's head as if she were a little puppy. "My little Emily is so adorable even when she's going crazy!" His eyes were filled with doting affection.

Emily slapped Eurydice's hand away with a loud smack and prepared to get out of the car to confront the three individuals who seemed hostile.

"Don't get out!" Eurydice suddenly turned serious and grabbed Emily's arm. "They are witches who specialize in exploiting greed. They enhance their powers by feeding on people's desires. As long as you have desires, you will become their prey. I can feel your strong desires, no wonder they were drawn here."

"My desires?" Emily repeated, puzzled.

Eurydice pinched Emily's nose gently, his smile soft and sweet, enough to make someone feel nauseous. "It's written all over your face!"

Emily still didn't understand. What were her desires?

"It's that girl next to you, isn't it? She's seriously injured, right? Your wish to save her is your desire, and it's very, very strong. That's why you feel the fog is thick, obscuring your vision," Eurydice patiently explained.

He used to be a person without desires or ambitions, wandering alone and doing things on a whim. But since he met Emily, he found her intriguing and discovered that he had developed a faint desire himself. So while the thick fog seemed overwhelming to Emily, it appeared as a mere wisp of smoke in his own eyes.

"How do we break free from this?" Emily asked anxiously, watching the three figures getting closer. While it would be informative to learn about these creatures another time, the immediate priority was finding a solution. Facing witches for the first time, Emily felt even more uneasy. These magical and shape-shifting beings wouldn't be defeated through physical combat.

"Do you trust me?" Eurydice suddenly looked into Emily's eyes, as if trying to peer into her soul. His sincere expression made Emily unconsciously nod. But as she saw Eurydice's nonchalant smile, she realized how absurd it was to trust someone she barely knew.

Seeing a small flame ignite in Emily's dark eyes, Eurydice stopped teasing her and became serious again. "Now close your eyes, temporarily forget about Olivia, and let your heart calm like still water. Don't think about anything."

At first, Emily was puzzled, but she obediently closed her eyes and tried to push away all thoughts from her mind. However, memories flooded in like a rushing torrent. Various images intertwined, James's sorrowful gaze, Olivia's feeble and exhausted state, Boris's gentle eyes, and even Benjamin's mischievous antics. Fragments of these memories flashed through her mind.

Emily suddenly opened her eyes, and the fog grew denser, engulfing the three figures within its embrace. But she knew they were drawing closer. She realized she cared about so many things she hadn't fully acknowledged before!
