Chapter Four

Hawks was sitting in his apartment, crimson wings spread out on his soft couch. He was aimlessly scrolling through his phone, and was wearing a grey zip-up hoodie and black tracksuit pants. He was tired. The press were getting on his nerves recently and hero work was getting stressful and more and more difficult. He was struggling to keep being a double agent for the HPSC and pretend to be on the League's side while avoiding Dabi.

He felt pathetic.

He knew if he tried to talk to Dabi he'd somehow manage to embarrass himself and start begging for Dabi back even though Hawks was the one to break up with him.

Hawks sighed and ran his fingers through his blonde hair.

Maybe he should call Dabi.

No.

That's not a good idea.

Hawks picked up a pillow and slammed it against his face.

"Fuck."

"Damn. Having a crisis over there?" A familiar voice said.

Hawks looked up from suffocating himself with the pillow. "Rumi. Hey."

She looked at him, concerned. "Hey. Are you alright?"

"Yup." He sighed. "Well kind of. Sort of. Not really."

Rumi sat down on the couch beside him. She was wearing a white tanktop and navy leggings, her long white hair tied up in a low ponytail. "Wanna talk about it?"

"No."

"Wanna grab a drink?"

"... Yeah."

Rumi got up again, reaching out a hand to Hawks. "Come on. Let's go out. I know a good bar, away from those bitches in the press."

He blinked. "How did you know I was stressed about the press?"

Rumi smiled softly. "I didn't. I just guessed, and guessed right apparently. But you need to wind down. I don't like seeing you like this, it's unlike you. And I'm also thinking it's something to do with a relationship?"

Hawks groaned. "Stop knowing me so well Rumi, I cant hide anything from you." He let himself be dragged up by Rumi as she laughed at his annoyance.

Hawks and Mirko grabbed their shoes and walked out the door. It was 8 PM, and the sky was getting darker, and people were going home, so they walked to the bar Mirko had mentioned earlier.

The sky had a lone star, shining in the midnight blue, cloudless sky.

Hawks looked at the star and smiled gently. 'I wish... that things fix themselves out.' He thought.

He looked back at Rumi, who seemed to be talking about something and laughing.

"There!" Rumi pointed at a small building, tucked in a discreet area. "That's the bar I was talking about."

Hawks looked where she was pointing. The building was small, and had ivy growing along one side of it. The doors were open, and light was gently spilling onto the gravel outside the front. The windows were small and the place looked homely. There was laughter and a sent of alcohol drifting out the door.

Hawks grinned. Seems like a good place to hang out. Rumi and him walked in the doors. Rumi waved to a couple of people who seemed to recognise her, and they walked over to the bar counter.

A cheery man grinned at them. "Rumi! You're back!"

Rumi smiled. "Of course, Genji. You know I love this place.

The man was tall, and broad built, with muscular arms and a kind face. His hair was brown, fluffy and shoulder length, tied half-up half-down. "Hawks too, this is nice. You two friends or...?"

Hawks internally sighed. "Just friends."

"Well, what can I get you two today?" The man asked kindly.

Rumi smiled. "My usual."

Hawks slumped on a chair. "The strongest thing you have please."

Genji looked at him curiously. "Of course." Internally he was thinking to himself, 'I'm going to keep an eye on this kid...' Hawks was acting strange, and Genji wanted to make sure he was alright.

Genji served Hawks and Mirko their drinks, and moved along to the other customers.

Rumi looked at Hawks. "Don't get too drunk now." She said sternly.

"Yeah yeah." He waved her away.

Hawks did in fact, get too drunk.

"Hawks, come on!" Mirko was trying to drag him up. "I have to go meet someone right now, and I can't be dealing with this, I told you not to get too drunk!"

"Is fine Rumi! Jus leave me here~" Hawks slurred out.

The bar was fairly empty, so luckily, no one except the bartender was paying them any attention.

Genji looked at Mirko sympathetically. "You two alright?"

"Yeah. Fine." Mirko sighed. She continued trying to pull Hawks up, but he was too out of it to move.

"I'll take care of him for you." Mirko turned to see a tall man, with sunglasses and a mask on. She narrowed her eyes.

"Dabs!" Hawks' eyes lit up.

Mirko looked at him. 'He knows this guy?' She thought to herself.

"I'll take him home, if you have to go somewhere. I know him, don't worry." The man said.

Mirko sighed. She let go of Hawks. "Fine. Normally, I wouldn't trust you, but I really have to go. Take care of him."

"I will, don't worry." The man said, walking over to Hawks.

Mirko nodded, and left the bar.

The man walked over to Hawks. "Hey, birdbrain. I'll take you home."

Hawks grinned. "Dabiii! I was just thinking about you!"

Dabi looked at him curiously. "Thinking what about me?" He asked, pulling down his mask to reveal his scars.

He picked Hawks up gently, and began to walk out of the bar, Hawks babbling his ear off the whole way back to his apartment.
