Chapter 23: Dance in the Rain

Dean now on Michael's team was separated from Cami for the day.

The teachers had planned out activities such as a cook out having both groups cook their own meals, relay races, and the final before meeting back up for a bonfire picnic, a hike.

Dean wished times would pass faster so he could talk to Camille again.

Dean watched across the field as Camille raced with her partner laughing as she did so.

It wasn't until Michael snapped him out of his trance that he realized he'd been staring at Camille instead of participating in the race.

Hours had passed and the teachers now grilled and passed out food.

Dean looked around for Camille hoping this was his chance to speak to her, but she wasn't there.

He asked Lia if she's seen Camille.

Lia spoke in a curt tone. "I don't know, she probably went to the bathroom or something."

Dean sighed, he felt bad that he had to hurt Lia's feelings, but he also didn't want to lead her on.

As the boys hiked to their area, the sky had started to darken with grey clouds.

"Ugh of course it's going to rain." Michael said.

Dean sighed and rolled his eyes.

Michael noticed.

"You got something you want to say?"

Dean stopped and looked at him.

"Don't start something you can't handle Michael, I'm not getting into this with you again."

Dean's friend Jackson inched closer as he felt the tension rise.

Michael stepped closer.

"You had the upper hand last time because you caught me off guard, I won't make the same mistake, so this high and mighty guy you think you are you better pipe down."

It had begun to rain lightly.

Dean clenched his jaw trying to hold back his anger.

"Michael I just told you I'm not arguing with you again, it's raining now, we need to get to our camping ground."

Michael scoffed as Dean passed by him, he stuck his foot out to trip Dean on purpose.

Dean caught himself from the full impact of hitting the ground.

He laughed to himself as he turned around seeing Michael with a smug look on his face, Dean felt his body heating up and the anger rising.

"What, don't tell me all of the sudden you can't stand up for yourself, we all know you can fight, just like your Daddy?" Michael said in a taunting tone.

He was referring to the time Dean's father had shown up at his school drunk demanding Dean to come to the office, but it was lunch time, and so against the staff's will, he stalked down to the cafeteria and gripped Dean up in front of everyone. But Dean had shrugged him off rather aggressively and knocked him down.

That was all it took to send him off the edge.

Dean stalked up to him grabbing his shirt before slamming him into a nearby tree.

"DIDN'T I TELL YOU TO KEEO YOUR FUCKING MOUTH SHUT ABOUT MY FAMILY!?"

Michael continued to look smug, pleased to know he hit a nerve.

Dean seemed as though he was rasing his hand to punch Michael... Again...

Jackson grabbed Dean off of Michael though, and the others guy grabbed Michael away as well.

Jackson spoke with a sneer towards Michael.

"Stop causing unnecessary problems just because you want to start some shit, except you got your ass whooped and move on, because when he's angry enough there's not much any of us will be able to do to help you, and if you really want to stoop that low then we can go and tell the admin to make HIM captain since YOU can't seem to handle the title."

Michael grit his teeth and stalked away up the path.

Dean stood off to the side trying to regain his composure.

"You coming man?"

"Yeah, yeah, in a second, I need to calm myself down before I go back around him." Dean replied.

Jackson nodded and then grabbed Dean's bag since they were sharing a tent.

Dean stomped off down the trail, the rain getting a little harder.

After a few minutes he reached where they had been when they ate dinner, but he didn't expect that Camille would have been there, sitting on the bench observing the water, letting the rain fall down around her.

"Camille?"

She turned her head, the hair stuck to her face.

"Oh, Dean."

"What are you doing out here in the rain?"

Camille stared back up at him with a sense of amusement.

"I could ask you the same.."

Dean sighed and then said, "oh I just needed to clear my head for a second, then I was gonna go back."

Camille nodded.

"So where were you earlier... I mean you weren't at dinner, I asked Lia...but she didn't really seem like she wanted to talk to me." Dean said with a faint smile.

Camille smiled too. " I was dealing with a girl emergency, so in the midst of me doing that I missed dinner because it took a little long for me to get what I needed."

"Oh" Dean nodded.

Camille stood and walked over to the table where a radio sat. Camille switched it on, the static and broken sounds lasted for a second before it switched to a slow muffled song.

" Wrap me up in all you, I want ya, in my arms, oh let me hold ya...."

Camille approached Dean, water droplets falling off of her eyelashes.

"Have you ever danced?"

Dean shook his head no, though he remembered before, he had danced with Cami at a birthday party in their freshman year, and neither of them knew how so she kept stepping on his feet. But it was worthwhile because they were together.

Camille grabbed his arm and guided it to her back and then she picked up his hand and slowly began to sway back and forth. Dean followed her movement.

The world around them had turned to a silent hush. The pitter-pattering of the rain off the radio, and the faint melody that played through it.

And there was Cami and Dean. Staring into each other's eyes.

"Heaven when I held you again, how could... We ever just be friends... I would rather die than let you go..."

Camille suddenly laughed and looked down away from him.

"What?" Dean asked, a smiling forming on his lips.

Camille looked up at him with a small grin. "Nothing, it's just like what you said that time... The song, it's ironic."

Dean's breath seemed to catch in his throat, he was almost positive that Cami had just told him she felt the same way.

Dean's hand left hers, and Camille looked confused for a second. Instead they cupped her face, and Dean brought her closer.

And finally, at last he had felt her lips touch his once again. As though it had been a life time.

Once He pulled away to look at him, Cami had a shy grin. But Dean had a tearful look.

Camille asked, "Dean? Are you okay, did I, did I do something?"

Dean shook his head and smiled before pulling her towards him and wrapping his arms around her.

"No, you did nothing wrong, you did everything absolutely right, it's just that I don't think I've been this happy in a long time ( he tried to steady his voice and keep in mind that she didn't remember their past life) so it made me a little choked up."

"Oh" Camille squeezed him tighter.

They stayed that way, relishing the moment. At some point the song had ended, but they were too lost in each other to notice.
