Under a barrage of energy beams, the once smooth grassland was quickly pockmarked with deep craters. However, these energy beams continually missed their target.
In the midst of the exchange of energy beams and the rapid maneuvers of the four Wakandan combat aircraft, a figure shrouded in a faint green aura continuously blinked on the ground, eluding their pursuit and attacks.
"Is this guy a mutant?!" The Captain of the Wakandan task force, piloting one of the aircraft, exclaimed in shock after a repeated barrage of energy beams failed to hit the agile individual on the ground.
Not only this small Captain but all the elite Wakandan warriors dispatched by the Great Priest to hunt down Lin Rui were astonished by Lin Rui's performance. While Wakanda had its share of "Superman"-like figures, Lin Rui's abilities were nothing short of astounding.
Even Black Panther, without any equipment, couldn't have evaded the firepower of four combat aircraft to this extent. Yet, the lively fellow up ahead didn't have Black Panther's gear.
"Captain, what do we do now? We can't hit him at all! If we keep this up, we might attract unwanted attention!" Despite being within Wakandan territory, they were no longer under the cover of the special spatial barrier.
Thus, everything happening here could potentially be observed by satellites. Wakanda had ways to shield this region from satellite observation, but such a large-scale battle was bound to attract attention.
"Never mind that! Activate the linked combat tactics! Swift and decisive action!" Upon hearing the reminder from a team member, Captain's eyes flashed as he gave the order.
Whoosh!
After the Captain issued the command, he forcefully slapped the console on the aircraft.
Humming...
In the next moment, the energy levels of the aircraft surged, and their speed skyrocketed. The other three aircraft, albeit slightly slower, also experienced a burst in energy and rapidly increased their speed in unison.
"Huh? The energy levels suddenly spiked?" Lin Rui, who had been casually evading energy beams on the ground, raised an eyebrow and mumbled.
Although the sudden surge in energy from the four aircraft surprised Lin Rui momentarily, he didn't consider them much of a threat. To him, the energy levels of these four aircraft were comparable to about ten Iron Man suits. Furthermore, they lacked Iron Man's agility and were only more powerful in terms of energy beam output.
Lin Rui didn't put much thought into these four aircraft, but their increased speed meant he couldn't toy with them any longer. Before Tony and the others arrived, Lin Rui might need to show a bit of his abilities to the lurking Great Priest.
"Since I've gone missing for a while, even Tony and Steve don't know where I am. Sending them a message now, especially about Wakanda, they should arrive fairly quickly," Lin Rui thought to himself as he stopped his escape.
Pew, pew, pew!
Just as Lin Rui came to a halt, over a dozen energy beams struck in front of him. This time, Lin Rui had no intention of dodging.
"Speaking of... after going through so many major events, even facing a planet-devourer head-on, solving these internal Earth matters doesn't seem all that fulfilling..." Lin Rui mused to himself as he effortlessly drew an ancient-looking sword from his waist.
Boom!
As Lin Rui drew the long-unused sword from its sheath, the energy beams converged and hit him.
"He's hit!" Each aircraft's cockpit resounded with delighted shouts as the energy beams finally struck their elusive target.
After chasing him for so long, they had finally hit that elusive kid! With Wakanda's technology far superior to the outside world's, even if that guy wore SHIELD armor or an Iron Man suit, he shouldn't have survived such energy strikes.
"Wait! The energy readings there are off!" Just when everyone thought the mission was accomplished and they could return, Captain, who had just been celebrating, suddenly frowned and shouted.
Beep, beep, beep!
As the Captain cried out in alarm, the aircraft's control panel displayed extremely high energy readings where Lin Rui had been targeted. In the next moment, within the brilliant white energy beam convergence, strands of emerald light suddenly pierced through.
Amid the shocked expressions of the elite Wakandan team chasing Lin Rui, those emerald strands instantly dissipated the energy beams they intercepted. These emerald strands, after neutralizing the energy beams, morphed in mid-air into four sharp blade-like forms and sliced toward the four hovering aircraft.
"Let's hope the protection mechanisms inside these Wakandan aircraft are good... Otherwise, I can't be blamed for not showing face to T'Challa." Lin Rui watched calmly as his ethereal Azure Sword Energy sliced through the pure white energy beams. He stood unscathed at his original spot.
Crackle, crackle, crackle!
Just as Lin Rui completed his musings, the Azure Sword Energy in the air gradually dissipated into nothingness. Meanwhile, the four aircraft that had been pursuing Lin Rui moments ago stalled briefly before disintegrating into hundreds of pieces, raining down as scattered debris from the sky.
Lin Rui hadn't drawn his sword in a while; after all, with his current powers in this Earth's conventional "native" world, he rarely needed to intervene personally. However, when it came to critical plot developments, Lin Rui didn't mind taking action himself.
Bang, bang, bang!
The four aircraft, now reduced to fragments, plummeted to the ground one by one. Some parts, especially the cockpit sections, remained relatively intact, having survived the ordeal without being completely destroyed.
It seemed that Wakanda's aircraft had fairly decent protection mechanisms. With Lin Rui intentionally holding back, the occupants of the cockpits should be injured but not killed by the Sword Energy.
Humming...
As Lin Rui finally had a moment to open his communicator, which had been buzzing incessantly since earlier, he heard Rogers' urgent voice as soon as the connection was established.
"Jackson! Don't get yourself into trouble. We can discuss matters concerning Wakanda later." Rogers' voice came through the holographic screen, filled with concern.
Lin Rui had quarreled with the Wakandan High Priest, and Tony and Rogers were aware of it. They were also privy to Lin Rui's speculations about the High Priest.
Therefore, they weren't surprised by the attack on Lin Rui, nor were they overly concerned. However, Rogers was worried that Lin Rui's self-defense might inadvertently lead to negative consequences.
