Dark Absentia: Blood Infernal Chapter Nineteen

The doors open on the sixtieth floor, revealing two teenage girls, one man, and two women. They ignored the weapons in their faces and piled in. Down the hallway, a group of people were approaching. They had bats and pipes in their hands. The elevator goes up as the man hits the ground floor button.

"Come on, damn it! Why won't this elevator go down to the ground floor?" the man said.

"Easy now, we're cops. What's going on?" I asked, showing my badge.

I already knew the answer but wanted to hear what the man said. The man was holding his side. There was a lot of blood.

"My brother just got brutally murdered by the elderly couple next door. The old woman damn near got me too. That's when another neighbor stabbed me. I'm just trying to get our family out of here," the man said.

I slung my rifle and tore a good portion of my shirt off, wrapping it around the man's waist. We had to get him to a hospital soon. The elevator stopped at the eightieth floor, and the doors opened.

"Come on!" I said, taking the man over my shoulder.

I lead the way to apartment 8012. Two more doors opened as we passed. A couple came out of one, and two women out of another. The second elevator opened, and four women and two men piled out. They all looked like they'd been through hell.

"Everyone's going crazy!" the bleeding man said.

They all looked sane and not attacking us. That was a good sign. Thomas took the bleeding man from me and took charge of the civilians. Bob went to work on the elevators, keeping them on this floor.

"Don't forget the stairwells and check if this building has a fire escape," I shouted, heading on.

Just as I reached apartment 8012, the door opened, revealing Madison. She pointed a pump shotgun at my chest. 'Fuck, what is with women pointing shotguns at my chest?'

"Jesus, Eddie! What are you doing here?" Madison blurted.

She was still wearing her work clothes. A high-waisted pencil skirt with a white blouse. Madison was a doctor with her own private clinic. Her eyes, face, and hair matched Rachael's. Even Madison's curvaceous figure and opulent bust rivaled her younger sister's. Behind her is Rory, a college beauty with a matching body to her older siblings. The .357 magnum was a gift courtesy of Lorelei. As Madison awaited an answer, I gave her the rundown.

"Rachael sent us to get you out of here. Shit is hitting the fan, and monsters are roaming the streets. People are going insane and attacking," I explained. "We need to get you and your family down to Bellevue," I added.

"The news isn't saying anything about this," Patrica said.

The woman before me was nothing short of dazzling and the mother of the three beauties, and they got their genes from her. Her lustrous blonde hair, vibrant green eyes, and flawless skin were truly a sight to behold. As I looked closer, I could see a remarkable resemblance between her and the three beautiful young ladies beside her. Indeed, it was clear that they had all inherited their fair features from their majestic mother, Sophia. It was no wonder these women were so captivating, having come from such a beautiful source of genes. Their mother's alluring presence filled the room with a sense of grace and elegance, as if a queen herself had come to bless us with her presence. But it's the grandmother that really intrigues me, as she is someone who is fifty or sixty years of age. At her advanced age, she should be slowing down, but if she is, she's certainly not revealing it. The woman looks like she's in her prime, and she certainly has the body to prove it. It's assuredly rare to see someone so beautiful at that age, but that's not all that's strange about this situation. There was no doubt that the family of women inherited their femininely attractive physiques from Sophia, the mother of the Kyle family. Both wore dainty lace nightgowns.

"Patricia, Mrs. Sophia, turn to News 5 or Local Eight. Those are the only two channels telling the truth right now. The Mayor is in Bellevue; we took her and her family there before coming here," I explained.

Patrica quickly switched to one of the channels. Sure enough, they urged people to stay calm and follow the instructions on this channel and the other stations. What was left of the force was divided between those stations and the three hospitals. All other emergency services and civilians were told to go to one of those five locations. Any different location was unsafe and extremely dangerous. I saw the flaming monsters on the tv that we've been fighting all day. There was no doubt the city was under siege, and New York wasn't the only city in peril. This event was happening nationwide, possibly even worldwide.

"Well, shouldn't we go now?" Madison asked.

"Get your things together. Pack food, water, medicine, and anything you can use. It looks like the people on this floor are ordinary. I don't know about anything below sixty.

"Can we help those people above sixty then?" Rory asked.

"I'll try, but you need to get ready to go. Keep that shotgun handy. If those monsters show up, blast them. If you have fire extinguishers, use them to slow them down. Only crosses can kill them for good. You must place it on their body and shoot them in the head or heart. That's if you can even get close," I explained.

"What? Are these monsters' demons?" Sophia asked.

"They might as well be, ma'am," I said.

After that, the women did not waste any time. They started preparing while I checked the hall. Others were out of their homes now. Thomas came up to me.

"Every floor below sixty is gone. It's like the people all just acted together. Floor sixty was the first to be attacked, but a couple went to the above floor and warned everyone. After that, people started barricading the stairwells. We're trapped up here with maybe hundreds of people," Thomas said.

"We need to take stock of all the available supplies for now, but if one of those monsters shows up, we're done. Worst if those things from the desert come," I said.

"Hey, there's a guy with welding supplies. Maybe we can weld the doors of the other floors down," Bob said.

"That's two elevator doors on every floor, 120 floors in total. I hope this guy has enough for all that," I said.

"We have to try. The Chief wants us to hold here for now. Kremer and Cook are trying to get some buses together. The earliest they can come is in the morning," Thomas said.

"It's going to be dark soon. We better start barricading the best we can," Bob said.

My phone buzzed, and it was a text from Racheal. Olivier Roberts got the rest of the Mayor's family to safety. They lock down after what you tell them. Her last words were good luck. I texted her good luck and told her I'd watch out for her family. That was a promise I intended to keep.

"Hey, I think the people on the floors below sixty are leaving," a man said.

The middle-aged man was showing Bob a live YouTube video. They made room so Thomas, and I could see. Sure, enough, people were exiting the front of the apartment we were in. More were leaving out of the garage. At this point, our attention was drawn to the two women we had ridden in the elevator with. It didn't seem like things were going well for the man they were with. Life was draining from his face, turning a pale white. I turned to get Madison and Rory. Rory was a registered nurse and went to school to be a Doctor. Rachael and Madison were putting her through college.

"Hey Madison, we got a wounded man in the hallway. His spleen might have been ruptured," I said.

"Show me where! Rory, get the first aid kit!" the red-haired vixen said.

She hurried behind me to the man in the hall. Rory joined her a few moments later. One of the women that came out of the elevator came to help, indicating she and her roommate were nurses too. Madison didn't hesitate to give them orders. Eddie and I watched as Bob ensured the elevator wasn't going anywhere. All he could do was keep the doors open. He'd organized a few of the others to watch the stairwells. People were coming up to find out what was going on. Namely to speak to Thomas and me. The word was out that there were two detectives on the scene. A couple came to greet us, the ones that lived on this floor.

"Hey, I'm Nathan Shaw, and this is my wife, Blossom. We're both in the Army and if you need anything, we want to help," the man said.

There was no doubt they were in the Army, but I called bullshit about them being married. They shared too many facial features. Blonde hair, blue eyes, thick eyebrows, a round nose, full lips, and soft cheekbones were just the start of their familiar traits. Aside from the woman's ample rack and tight thigh gap, there wasn't much difference from the athlete pair. My guess was the blonde man and woman were brother and sister. Why they were pretending to be married wasn't my problem at the moment.

"Eddie, this man needs medicine we don't have here. He needs to get to a hospital," Madison said.

"Bellevue's locked down, and so are the other four sites. Shit, getting bad outside," I said.

"Then we need to get medicine or supplies that I can use to treat him," Madison said. "Some of the people from the lower floors made it up from what I just heard. There are more injured," she added.

"There's a pharmacy not far from here," Nate revealed.

"Look outside or on your phone. All hell is breaking out down on the streets," Thomas countered.

"We don't do something soon, this man will die," Madison said.

"Alright, alright, find us some fresh backpacks or duffel bags," I said, setting my bag in the doorway to Madison's apartment.

"You might want to make a list of medicines. Some kids and elderly need medicine," Rory said.

"Then you better hurry and get that list. We're leaving in fifteen minutes," I said.

Bob, Thomas, and I got to work sorting the gear we were taking. We'd need to travel light and fast. The night was coming, and we knew this nightmare would get worse.
