Chapter 34 Doctor and Demon

After a few hours, we stopped fighting.

"Huff... Puff... That was exhausting." Isaac laid on the ground, trying to catch his breath.

"Not me. I still have tons of energy left." I said proudly.

"You monster." Isaac sneered at me.

Rona raised her hand and said. "Lil wins."

I clasped my hands together in the air and said. "Thank you. Thank you. It was an easy peasy match."

Isaac rolled his eyes and said. "Hey, I wanted to ask you something."

I laid next to Isaac. "Sure, shorty. What's up?"

"Is it about Lyndall?" Rona squeezed in between us.

"Hmm? Ya." Isaac scooted to the side.

"You believe me?"

"Yup." Isaac and Rona answered at the same time.

"I know Rona would but Isaac too? I thought you would say you wouldn't believe in superficial things, and I was ludicrous."

"No, I won't. In fact, I'm interested in ancient texts and dark myths."

"You understand ancient language?"

"I learned a few so I could decode some."

Rona's and my jaws dropped.

"What's wrong with spending your free time on useful stuff instead of letting your brain rot like someone here?" Isaac looked at me.

My last strand of patience broke. I immediately got up and tried to throttle Isaac, but Rona held me back as much as she could.

"Come here, you little twerp!" I screamed while struggling to break free from Rona's grip.

"Relax. We're are straying away from the main point here." Isaac backed away. "Listen to what I'm trying to say, okay?"

I stopped struggling, but my fuse was still burning, and my fist was still itching to hit Isaac's face. "On with it."

Isaac let out a small sigh. "What I'm trying to say is I read a forbidden text which I stole accidentally."

"Oui... You stole a forbidden text?"

"Accidentally. Through hacking. How do I know my target would put a forbidden text into a file called 'Private Account'."

I slapped my forehead.

Isaac continued. "Anyways, when I heard your story, I felt like it's similar to the story written in the forbidden text I stole. In the forbidden text, it is mentioned about a doctor, a demon, and priestess."

"How is that similar to my story?" I crossed my arm.

"Wait. Let me tell you the story first. Long ago, in a small village in Japan, there was a kind doctor who used traditional medicine to treat his patients. He would treat everyone no matter who they were. The villagers love him. One day, a vicious disease struck the village. The villagers were suffering. They were tortured by an indescribable pain over their whole body before they died. He tried to save them, but his medicine had no effect. Slowly, the villagers were dying. When the doctor lost all hope, he encountered a shrine. He felt odd how a shrine mysteriously appeared near the village. Nevertheless, the doctor took the risk and entered the shrine. The shrine oozed a dangerous aura. The doctor wanted to run, but seeing how this might be his last chance to save the villagers, he buffed up his courage and headed deeper into the shrine. Inside the shrine, he saw a godlike statue. He had never seen such an evil-looking god before, and the doctor felt terrified. When he was about to leave, he heard a voice calling out to him. "Do you wish to help those poor folk?" The doctor stopped and turned back to the statue. "Yes, I do. I do. I'll do anything. Please." The doctor kneeled and pleaded. The voice replied, "If you wish to save them, then you must pray to the statue before you." The doctor quickly agreed and prayed to the statue without realizing that doom would soon fall upon him and all his loved ones. The voice chuckled in silence. "Good. Now I shall give you the power to heal. No illness can best you. But remember, to pray to me every day. If not, something terrible will happen." The doctor thanked the statue and quickly went back home. As the doctor prayed and healed the villagers every day, the villagers began to feel better. Soon, the diseases subsided, and everyone was able to continue their lives like normal. Not too long after that, the doctor got married and had a loving family."

"Oh, that's nice. Why is the god evil?"

"Because while it heals the patient, it also takes away their life force."

"Oui..." I said in disgust.

Rona grabbed Isaac and asked. "What happened after that?"

Isaac continued. "The doctor didn't know that the life force was extracted from his patients and were stored in the doctor's body while he was treating his patients. At night, he would pray, and the life force would be transferred to his god. In return for his continuous service, he and his family were able to live for eternity. If he ever stops, the entire family would decay, and their soul would be trapped by that god forever."

"Sounds more like a demon to me." I was trembling in fear. Rona grabbed onto me and said. "Rona agrees."

"Doesn't he or anyone realize something was wrong when he and his family don't grow old?" I doubted. Rona agreed and said. "Maybe they were all fools!"

"I haven't told you everything yet, so stop interrupting me."

"Then faster finish up. The place is getting dark."

"The place was dark from the beginning... Never mind, I'll just continue. The doctor was a traditional man. He believed a family should have a son, but after many years, his wife gave birth to 5 daughters. So the doctor went and prayed very hard to the god for a son. That year, the doctor's wife gave birth to a son. A very beautiful son. Five years later, right after Winter, Spring came. Some ominous things happened to the village. Animals were dropping dead like flies, corps were wilting, and people were getting ill. No one could figure out what happened. Even the doctor's family was suffering. The doctor prayed to the god, but the god didn't respond. It was during that time that a travelling priestess saw the village's suffering and decided to help out. The priestess felt an evil presence coming from far away and decided to head toward it. When she reached there, she saw a child with strong demonic power, standing in front of a cabin with a broken door. The priestess immediately shot an arrow at the demon child, but it dodged the arrow effortlessly. The demon child let out an evil laugh and rushed toward the priestess. The demon child and the priestess fought. They were almost evenly matched. However, the demon child was one step quicker and thrusted its hand through the priestess's stomach. The demon child chuckled and said. "Look like this is the end for your priesthood, priestess." The priestess smiled back and said. "We'll see about that." The demon child realized something was wrong and tried to escape, but it was too late. The priestess used her ultimate sealing technique and sealed the demon child inside her. Once the demon child was sealed, the entire village and the shrine vanished without a trace."

"..." My mouth was left ajar. When I heard the story, I couldn't help but wondered if this was Lyndall's story. The story was so similar. Although there were a few points not mentioned but what's the odd of having a beautiful son and 5 daughters, as well as finding a child near a cabin after winter? I shook my head in fear.

"After hearing your story about Lyndall, I suddenly remembered this story."

"Rona thinks this story is too scary." Rona shut her ears.

"I'm more amazed by the fact you remembered every detail." I looked at Isaac with suspicious eyes.

"Really? I love this story. I always read it before bedtime."

"Oui... No wonder there's something wrong in your brain." I pointed at his brain.

Isaac refuted. "Hey, you're the one with a demon child."

"You don't know that. There are some similar points, but that doesn't mean that the demon child is Lyndall. I mean, Lyndall is so cute and fuzzy, but that... That is a demon."

"Just saying, if I were you, I'll be extra careful not to promise anything to anyone since you somehow always attract danger wherever you go."

"Oui... Must be my bad luck."

"Rona here. Rona will give Lil good luck." Rona jumped on me, and I laughed. "Aww~ Thanks, Rona!"

I pondered and asked. "But I wonder. If Lyndall is the demon. Why is Lyndall inside me? How old is Lyndall? Does that mean that the priestess is my ancestor? Oh, wait. More importantly, how the heck did she live after being thrust in the stomach?"

"You mean how could Lyndall live that long? Don't forget that the priestess mentioned that the greater demon is very powerful. He might have used his power to preserve his life till now. And there's a high chance the priestess is your ancestor. As for how she lived, maybe she has a monstrous strength and willpower? Seeing how she could go fight a greater demon all by herself." Isaac looked at me. "Ya. Monstrous."
