"Lucy!?" Her mother looked as if she was struck by an invisible force. She staggered and gripped her husband's arm for support. "Y-You joking. Y-You didn't sleep at his place."

"Of course, I did Mum." Lucy threw herself in her mother's arms and sobbed. "Please believe me. I swear I'm telling the truth," She whispered in her mother's ears. "Brother Cedric's not for me, he's a liar. He doesn't like me. He'll only torment me and—"

"Lucy." Her mother's voice made her stop. The woman pulled away and stared into her face with teary eyes.

"Just stop this nonsense, okay?" She said softly and held Lucy's cheeks. "We know you hate the idea of marriage. But don't say these kinds of things. Don't you know you're demeaning us at this moment? How can you say such things in front of our son-in-law."

Her mother glanced behind her shoulder where Cedric was still seated and she gave him an apologetic look.
