Numerous car horns blared and the road was filled with cars, trucks and so many automobiles trying to get a way through the traffic and go home. Even the thought of using the overpass wasn't much welcomed as it was filled too.
The traffic though, wasn't that really congested as there was still slow movement and not the usual standstill point.
"Why are there so many cars?" Vanessa said, rather than ask, in a highly irritated tone. "Alright I get it, there was a storm and all but still, people should be asleep bro!" She complained, pulling a face and hitting the steering.
"Hey!! Stop horning like an idiot would you." A man whose hair was bald in the middle shouted from a car beside her.
"How about you get down and go yell at the others on the road that they're idiots and should also stop horning, uhn??! Little wonder your head's bald in the middle coz apparently, your brain took a vacation with it. Idiot!" Van spat and as if being bedeviled, she swerved to the right and hit the man's car with her car before crazily racing through the traffic. People instantly made a way for the mad driver and the atmosphere only became more noisy as most people yelled and cursed.
"Woohoo!! Yeahhh! You see this Amy? This is called, making a way out of no freaking wayyy!! Ahahaha! Trust me, the trick never gets old." Vanessa exclaimed in a loud voice, laughing wildly, not caring about people's opinion of her.
"At this rate Van, you'll either get us killed, or at the very least, arrested." Amelia sighed as she fastened her seatbelt and watched her recklessly driving twin with a small soft smile. Van wouldn't be Van if she didn't do something crazy in a day.
"Says the queen of the underground car racing tournament. Girrll are you baaddd!"Vanessa responded with awe evident in her tone as she matched the accelerator, leaving more drivers screaming and cursing.
Few seconds later, they were neither dead nor arrested. Rather, they were safely ahead of the traffic.
The atmosphere was quiet with the chirping of crickets and some fireflies passing in a zigzag manner across the surface of the street lamps.
Vanessa turned on her phone and connected it to the car's bluetooth as she played a song on her playlist.
"Just one more hour and we're home. Can't wait to fall into my bed's embrace." Vanessa sighed with an air of longing.
" Sayyy... I can bet a thousand dollars Raymond will be up by now." Amy said with a twinkle in her eyes.
"Oh? Alright then, I'm in. A thousand more he's gonna be on the porch, waiting for us. I tell you what, that guy's almost thirty now right? Yet, what he does best apart from his work is to chaperone us? I think he needs a life like a real colorful one. A real one where he has fun, watch movies, or maybe even has a woman?"
"Don't even touch that topic. You know he doesn't like talking about it." Amelia reminded, rolling her eyes.
"What I do know, is that our dear brother needs some color in his life." Van replied, groaning.
"I would've suggested planning some things but what to do when the subject of this matter spends most of his time in the hospital, going for seminars and when eventually alone, he spends them in his lab."
"Talking about the lab, he doesn't even let us talk about it too, not to mention trying to at least take a glance at what's in there. Hmm...my curiosity is starting to pique. Are you thinking what I'm thinking, Amyy??" Van looked back at her sister with a mischievous smile plastered on her face as she wiggled her eyebrows.
"Lol. Dear sister, it's not like i'm psychic to be able to think of whatever you're thinking, but , ....I really am thinking what you're thinking." Amy said as she leaned forward, whispering into her driving sister's ear like the devil.
And just like that, devilish laughter resounded from the car as it zoomed past different buildings before arriving at a huge gate.
Bringing out a card, they gave it to the security man on duty at the gate and the gate was opened after their identity was confirmed.
The car glided into a familiar driveway before it got parked beside much more Suave cars in a garage.
"All I need is a shower and a hot cup of chocolate before I lay down in my beloved's deep embrace. Vanessa half-shouted as they both came down from the car, passing by a statue they've always felt strange about but would always discard the feeling.
The statue was that of a woman in robes with her hair dancing and fierce eyes. Finally, she was holding two flame swords in both hands and looked like she was on her way to reap some lives. From the statue's outlines, she seemed to be young and beautiful but her expression was cold and still boils down to that of a grim reaper's.
Initially, they were surprised that their brother, Raymond, was the one who gave the description and insisted it was made perfectly otherwise, the sculptists wouldn't be getting a penny. That motivation really worked and the eccentric sculpture came to being while they got paid. Even handsomely for making it so life-like. It was like the statue would cut through anyone who carelessly closes even an eye in its presence.
"You owe me a thousand dollars Van. Ray's not waiting for us on the porch this time." Amelia said.
"Alright, I'll send it to you." Vanessa answered.
"He's around though. The lights are on and the maids aren't around either." Amelia noted, pulling off her shoes and getting into a pair of fluffy flip-flops.
