The problem with traveling was that Lars and Leona had to drag their luggage. This luggage was a wheeled duffel carrying their clothes and other accessories. Leon urgently believed that they needed to get these Spatial backpacks.
Before leaving Slateport City, they went to visit the beach. There they saw many families relaxing and enjoying themselves. Children in particular could be seen running around playing.
They decided to enjoy a few cold fruit drinks next to the beach. Slateport City wasn't a small place, it was much bigger than the Driftveil town they came from.
Unfortunately, they had many things to do before fully enjoying such luxuries. At least, they had a few things that needed to be taken care of. Leon didn't want other people recommended to snatch all of the best Pokémon.
"it's time to leave the city. Mauville City is up north. Mauvile is the richest city in the Hoenn region so it has almost everything we need."
The three siblings swiftly departed and headed north of Slateport City. They walked past the large Beauty Contest building, which was enormous.
According to his research, this structure was the biggest in Slateport City, based on what Leon had heard and observed.
"One day, I will participate in this type of contest." Leona imagined herself in front of everyone while wearing a beautiful dress and performing with her Pokémon.
Leona had to wipe her mouth since she was about to start drooling.
"One day, I'll be there to see it." Leon laughed with a nod as they exited the city.
Slateport City to Mauville was about an hour to an hour and a half walk. If they had bikes, the trip to Mauville would be much shorter.
"This must be...route 110, right?" Lars checked the map he had bought recently and asked.
"Yes, this is route 110, if you look ahead, you'll see a cycling road. They're exclusively for people who use bicycles for traveling."
Leon remembered this about the game, there was also the information he had received on this.
Leona and Lars gazed ahead, but they couldn't see this Cycling Road. Leon sighed and suddenly remembered that his eyesight was enhanced.
However, after walking for about ten minutes, they saw it perfectly. The floors of this road were see-through and made with sturdy glass.
People could also be seen cycling on this road with smiles.
"Damn! I need a bicycle." Lar's mouth twitched. This looked like a road for the privilege, didn't it?
"There are several white fences on the road that block off the forest. Is this to prevent people from being attacked by Pokémon?"
Leona surmised that this was likely the case, but she wasn't sure.
"Probably, but these fences go on for a certain time period before stopping." The fence protection wouldn't last much longer the further you walked.
After departing from the vicinity of Slateport City, the fences would no longer be present. By this stage, the fences had already faded away, leaving them vulnerable to potential attacks.
Just as they were discussing it, they saw a small structure up ahead. Leon shook his head; he knew this was the building that allowed people onto the cycling road.
Leon explained briefly about it; so they decided to keep walking before passing the building. Afterward, Leona summoned her Mawile and started to bond with it more.
Leon summoned his Beldum leaving the road and going into the forest. Beldum had sensed some Pokémon nearby.
The first Pokémon was an Electrike. Leon used his Onix to easily deal with this Pokémon before capturing it.
This Pokémon was on his quest list from the Alliance.
That wasn't everything; Leon and his brother had also encountered some Plusle and Minun. Plusle and Minun were Pokémon that Lars needed to capture. None of their attacks were effective against Onix.
"Careful!"
Right then, a Gulpin unleashed a smog of Poison Gas. Leon and his siblings hurriedly dodged this disaster. Even though they carried Antidotes, they still didn't wish to be poisoned.
Wherever the poisonous smog touched, the grass and greenery withered. Leon used Seviper to deal with this particular Pokémon.
Their aptitudes were at the bottom of the barrel and not worth mentioning. Of course, Leon caught them for his Pokédex's entry sake.
Lars and Leona did the same, they caught some Pokémon. Leon had told them about Pokédex entries and the main point of it.
"Those birds are hard to catch, at least; they're playing hard to catch." Lars frowned as he stared at the bird's hovering in the air.
It was a group of Wingull. They refused to descend and confront them. They seemed to be making laughter-like sounds; somewhat mocking them.
"Ignore them, for now. In the future, you'll be able to catch this simpleton of a bird." This was Pokémon wasn't hard to acquire, so Leon himself wasn't fazed by it.
"Alright. We should return to the path and continue to Mauville." Lars sighed before making this suggestion.
Soon they were doing just that.
The structure of the cycling road was massive, as it resembled a roller coaster. Eventually, they saw another house, and Leon recognized it as the Trick House.
"There's no point in going to this house for the time being." Leon turned his head west and continued. "This road leads to route 103, but you need to cross the water to reach the other side."
Leon stated that it was best to take the zig-zag path. Unlike the game, this path didn't have any of those bushes on it. Not just that; this path was much wider than it was in the games.
As they took this path, nothing went wrong. Leon and his siblings could hear the sound of water waves and Wingull flying overhead.
"Not a trainer in sight." Lars looked around and wondered if everyone had a bike and took cycling road.
"Hey, it makes it easier on us," Leona smiled. They had been walking for some time, but now she also wanted to bike.
Leon was speechless, this path was longer than he thought.
'There is a Pokémon in the water, be careful; it's doing something.' Suddenly, Leon heard Beldum's warning tone going through his head.
"Get down!" Leon pulled both Lars and Leona to the ground.
Right then, a blast of water crossed the location they were just in. This blast of water was highly pressured and would have hit all three of them if Leon hadn't reacted in time.
Leon looked over and could see the Pokémon that attacked them. One must know that this zig-zag path stood high off the water.
Leon was shocked because the Pokémon that attacked them was a Gyarados. Its roars were deafening as the water surrounding it grew chaotic.
Leon measured Gyarados to see if they could challenge it or escape.
______
______ "Oh, no!" Leon's expression was for one—a sight to behold. This foe was far beyond any of their capabilities. "Run!!" Leon didn't hesitate. He told his sister to recall her Mawile, who had been interacting with Beldum until recently. The siblings realized the seriousness of the situation and hastily stood up to begin running. Gyarados thrashed its body as the clouds gathered in the sky. Suddenly, a heavy downpour was summoned. Leon couldn't care less about Gyarados summoning rain. He and his siblings needed to escape from this behemoth. As they were escaping, Leon turned and saw a cyclone gathering around Gyarados. With a thrust of Gyarados's body, this tornado was sent hurling their way. This tornado picked up the water in its path. "You guys, keep running! I got this!" Leon stopped and sighed before summoning all of his Pokémon. "Leon! We'll help you! Don't even think about turning us away!" Leona's expression and voice were hysterical. Leon was taken aback. He had never seen his sister make such an expression and talk like this. Lars was right behind her, why would they leave at this moment? Leon couldn't argue with them now, he summoned: Onix, Shroomish, Tailow, Sabelye, Poochyena, and Aron. Just as Leon was about to command his Sabelye to use Disable, something happened. Leon saw a Claydol—yes, he saw a Claydol. He thought his eyes were deceiving him for just a second, but it was indeed so. At the critical moment, this Claydol put up a large transparent screen. This screen was placed where Leon and his siblings were. Not only this, but a Skarmory also emerged in front of them, utilizing an attack similar to Whirlwind to cancel out the cyclone entirely. Leon was stunned but this didn't stop him from analyzing these Pokémon. _____ ________ ________ Leon just stared at these Pokémon with wide eyes, these were the best Pokémon he had ever seen. Claydol attacked Gyarados with a Stone Edge, these rocks were sharp and descended onto Gyarados like a storm. Roar!! Leon saw a large red X appear on Gyarados, indicating a critical hit! Despite being dazed, a thought came to Leon. He wanted to take advantage of the situation to nab this Gyarados. 'Beldum, use your Telekinesis and help this Pokéball go further!' Leon pulled out a Luxury Ball and threw it with all his might toward Gyarados. Gyarados was collapsing over the water as this was going on. It had been defeated in one strike from that Claydol. Beldum didn't slack off and helped Leon guide his Pokéball toward the defeated Gyarados.
