Chapter 66: A Date

"You said it's best we stayed as friends. But I'm sorry. I can't be friends with someone like you."

Ricky kept his gaze on Beverly's now ashen face for a few moments before turning away. The man left his basket with a nearby sales person before promptly heading out of the supermarket.

Left alone, a confused and bereft Beverly stared at the man's departing back with her mouth open. Wait a minute. This was not how it was supposed to go. She was supposed to break up with him, not the other way around. And what does he mean that he can't be her friend? Ricky, Aubrey, and her. They were the three amigos. They were always together.

It was with a confused mind that Beverly hurriedly called Aubrey who had been asleep at the hotel in Kyoto.

With bleary eyes, Aubrey listened to Beverly narrate what had happened from the very beginning up to the culminating confrontation at the grocery store.
