Epilogue

Despite the sombre atmosphere seeping with timid triumph, the day was cloudless and sparkling. The sky gleamed in its bright, deep blue, spraying rays of sunshine down the sleek caskets, each labelled with specific bold words. Ace straightened his cuffs and coincidentally drew his eyes to face Embry before grimacing internally at the sight of the sagging woman with tears streaming down her face.

Unlike her usual charisma and pop-art clothes, Embry donned a dark-coloured vest over her face in an attempt to conceal her sadness, only to further imply the dread she was feeling with her midi dress, the sleeves and hemlines draped so low it embraced the dry grass around her. Max laid a hand on Embry’s shoulder in an attempt to console her ever so slightly, but the boy in front of them knew it was fruitless. Kaden was dead.
