Chapter 8

"Yes, I have no manners." She turned to face Sonia, a sword aimed at her.

"You make fun of my sister every chance you get, to where she despises interacting with you. I'm not sure what she did to make you detest her so much."

Sonia got so close to her that the sword touched her.

"Scarlett, put down the sword. You still have time to beg for forgiveness," the guard said to Scarlett.

"I believe it is unjust to my sister. You're supposed to protect her, but you're continually isolating her and making her look bad." The sword pierced Sonia's upper chest.

"Scarlett," the guard pleaded.

Scarlett didn't mind the guard when he begged her.

Sonia smashes the tip of the sword that is touching her chest with one hand.

"Be STRONG if you think what I'm doing is unfair," she shouted. "You complain I don't let you do this or that, but do you have a lot of power? People will soon defeat you if you step out into the world. I am protecting each of you."

"What's going on here?" Josephine stood at the top of the stairwell.

"Josephine." Scarlett was going to go to Josephine when Sonia tied her up.

Josephine rushed down the stairs.

"Why did you tie my sister up?" she inquired, pointing to her sister.

"Your sister here dares to point a sword at me," she added, looking at Josephine. "She will have to be punished."

"Why does she need to be punished?" Kai took a step forward.

"You keep crossing the lines, prince," she pointed out. "Mind your own business,"

She looked back at Scarlett.

"Your punishment for you, Scarlett, is to go to the Kingdom of Thalia and serve the royal family."

"What exactly are you talking about?" Scarlett was attempting to untangle herself from the rope.

Kai was taken aback when he learned she was sending Scarlett to the Kingdom of Thalia. Based on what he knows, the Kingdom of Thalia does not treat its visitors properly. Even the citizens are impoverished. There's a lot of poverty there, and hardly anyone would like to move there. Citizens were not permitted to leave the kingdom. They will face a penalty worse than death if they leave.

The vampires have always served the royal family by putting an end to the conflicts that rage in Ethereal. They reached an agreement after many people perished and there was no order in Ethereal. The vampires sealed the bargain by murdering seven virgins. That is why, as vampires, they cannot wield their power inside the royal family. They will perish if they ever used it.

"Leave my sister alone," she said as she stood in front of Scarlett.

"How come she still has the tattoo on her brow? Is that to say she hasn't calmed down?" Sonia thought. "The tattoo is supposed to calm her down. I can't do anything to her."

Sonia sighs and lets go of Scarlett's rope.

"I can't deal with you kids anymore," she said as she stared at Sonia. "Whether or not you like it, prepare to travel to the Kingdom of Thalia in a month."

Sonia was on her way out the door. She was standing at the door's threshold when she turned around and looked at the guard.

"What is Amy up to? I instructed her to send many guards in here. Why is it just you?"

"Amy said she forgot to tell you, but you sent the guards on an errand, and they are not yet back. "

She sighed and walked away. The guard had also left.

"Are you feeling okay?"

Scarlett embraced Josephine.

"Can you tell me what happened to you? You just did something terrifying," she sobbed.

"Everything is fine."

Josephine was perplexed because she had no recollection of what had occurred. She only remembers going outdoors with Kai and then forgetting everything else.

Josephine went along with Scarlett and patted her on the back. Scarlett was crying for the first time in her life. Scarlett had never cried in her life, not since she was a youngster.

"I'm sorry to interrupt your little reunion, but you guys should think about me a little," he said, pointing to himself.

Josephine only rolled her eyes as Scarlett burst out laughing. They went and sat on the couch.

"I believe I should meet with Vanessa and explain everything that happened. Vanessa must be quite concerned." She rose rapidly.

"Oh, let me go with you." Josephine stood up as well.

"There's no need; Sonia is already enraged. We don't want to aggravate her."

Josephine was a little upset, but she understood. She simply misses her sister. Even though Kai has been set free, they have not released her. Scarlett walked away.

Kai pushes her against the couch.

"What exactly are you doing?"

"Let's have a talk," he suggested.

"Okay," she said, pushing him away.

"You sucked my blood," he said, motioning to his neck.

Josephine covers her mouth with her hand, then removes it.

"I did what?" she inquired. "It's no surprise that when I wake up, I have a sweet taste in my mouth. Did you die?"

"You." He delicately tapped her on the forehead.

"Can I taste a little of your blood?" she asks, holding her finger with one hand.

"You're insane! I was afraid I was going to die."

He expanded his eyes and gently opened his mouth.

"You didn't die, though," she pleaded.

He was fleeing from her as she brought him closer.

"Come right here!"

"Stop chasing after me."

Both Josephine and Kai were laughing as they chased each other around the house.

They were all sitting on the floor in the living room a few hours later. Scarlett joined them and brought drinks with her. Everyone was drinking.

"Prince, do you have a girlfriend?" Scarlett stated this as she held a tumbler of alcohol in her hand.

"Call me Kai, and I have a fiancee."
