Chapter 31: Dark Secretes

A few more days pass and everyone is preparing to depart from the city. Before everyone leaves Colonel Johnston and his comrades meet with Elsa Gates.

Colonel Johnston walks into Elsa Gate's office asking both Cpt. Jackson and Lt. Campos to stay outside and watch the door.

Colonel Johnston then sits down and begins talking to Elsa Gates.

Colonel Johnston enters the room and takes off his hat to speak, "Hello Ms. Gates it seems everything is running smoothly now."

Elsa Gates is sitting in her office, "Yes, yes. The city is in good shape and the people are starting to operate back into society. Again I am grateful for the military's assistance in this matter."

Colonel Johnston responds as he sits down in the chair on the other side of her desk, "No problem, Ms. Gates."

Elsa Gates looks at Colonel Johnston as he seemed a bit uneasy. "What's wrong Colonel it looks like you have something on your mind."

Colonel Johnston breathes and asks his question, "Ms. Gates are you making technology to take away special abilities?"

Elsa Gates says nothing for a second, "I have no idea what you're talking about Colonel."

Colonel Johnston stays committed to his question, "I hate to accuse you like this, but I can sense there was something wrong for a while now. We both know that special dampening cuffs were created by you to temporarily disable special abilities. The cuffs when they make contact with a special's body send an electrical signal to the brain that disables their special ability while they have the cuffs on."

Elsa Gates responds, "I'm aware Colonel I'm the one who made them after all."

Colonel Johnston clears his throat, "Of course, anyway based on the stories from Christian and the situation with Ace. If it is possible to disable a special ability over a wide area without the cuffs that would be something the World Government would want to know about, don't you agree Ms. Gates."

Elsa Gates looks at Colonel Johnston with an empty stare then she closes her eyes, "Yes I agree that would be quite revolutionary if something like that was created. It's too bad the only person that knows the secrete behind that technology is now dead."

Colonel Johnston starts becoming frustrated and yells, "MS. GATES!"

Elsa Gates calmly responds, "I'm not sure what you're accusing me of Colonel. I was held hostage because of my knowledge and data on specials. The man who held me hostage just wanted that knowledge and data. With those things, he was able to make that device. It's obvious he was working for someone, it would be who of you to find the boss Colonel."

Colonel Johnston bows in regret, "You're right Ms. Gates. I do apologize. I'll be on my way."

Elsa Gates responds, "No worries Colonel like I said you all saved my life and I am forever grateful."

Colonel Johnston then leaves and begins to leave the city with Cpt. Jackson and Lt. Campos. On the way back to headquarters Colonel Johnston is having a conversation with both of them.

Lt. Campos starts, "Sir how did the conversation with Elsa Gates go?"

Colonel Johnston looking unsure answers, "I think well but I'm not sure."

Cpt. Jackson pats him on his back in comfort, "You seem conflicted man."

Colonel Johnston responds, "I feel like something big is about to happen."

We transition back to Purgatory City where Christain and his group are about to leave.

Christian and Teddy start talking.

Teddy starts off talking nervously, "It was nice meeting you all and I can't thank you guys enough."

Christain looks at him confused, "What are you talking about?"

Teddy responds a bit more seriously, "What do you mean? I'm thanking you?"

Christian gets up close to Teddy, "No I mean why are you acting like we are saying goodbye."

Teddy again responds, "Because we are..."

Christian surprised then yells, "WHAT!!! I said I want you to come with me did you forget you bastard!"

Teddy is also surprised, "WAIT YOU WERE SERIOUS!!!"

Christian continues, "Of course I was, I need someone as smart as you to help me become king of this world."

Teddy doesn't look Christian in his eye, "Are you an idiot? I can't leave..."

Christian then walks away and sits at the exit of purgatory city on the ground. "I will be waiting for you right here until the end of the day."

Teddy then yells towards Christian, "DID YOU HEAR ME! I said I can't..."

Harrison then puts his hand on Teddy's shoulder, "He's quite stubborn huh."

Christian says one more thing to Teddy, "I will wait at the exit for you."

Teddy looks at them and starts to tear up. Then Teddy gets teleported to Elsa Gates's office out of nowhere.

Elsa Gates looks at Teddy and wipes his tear away, "What's wrong son?"

Teddy just stands there in frustration, "Mother..."

Elsa Gates smiles at Teddy, "I can see something is weighing on your mind."

Teddy is looking sad and conflicted, "Mother, Christian asked me to go with him."

Elsa Gates then walks around the office thinking, "Hmm..."

Teddy still looking confused utters more words nervously, "Mother I don't want to leave you alone and I'm just a..."

In the middle of Teddy's sentence, Elsa Gates cuts him off, "You should go."

Teddy is surprised when she says this and responds, "Wait what?"

Elsa Gates kneels next to him and puts both her hands on his shoulders, "Son, you've grown a lot. Now it's time for you to make your own destiny, I can tell you want to go, so go. I'll be fine."

Teddy starts crying, "But...but..."

Elsa Gates then hugs him, "I will always love you my son."

Teddy hugs her back and cries a lot. Then he packs up and leaves to meet Christian at the exit.

Teddy finally shows up and Christian asks, "Are you ready?"

Teddy with a smile on his face responds, "Yeah, let's go make you king, king of idiots."

Teddy starts laughing as they all begin leaving.

Elsa Gates watches everyone leave, and in the shadows, someone walks in.

Elsa Gates speaks as she continues looking out the window, "It seems your clothes have been quite burned, isn't that right Ace."

The person that walks in was not wearing the assassin uniform, but instead was wearing a waitress outfit. "Yeah, yeah I could've died if it wasn't for you."

This woman was the same woman that served the Colonel, Cpt. Jackson and Lt. Campos at the restaurant they attended.
