Chapter Two || Lexi

I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to wear to Bella Avery's fricking party. After dropping Nick off, I came home, ate some food while watching Dylan's In Trouble then I showered, freshened up and now I'm standing in front of my closet trying to figure out what I'm going to wear.

Hears a thing about my high school, if you go to a party without looking good you end up on, I've Heard That! and then the whole school will know and that won't be cute, at all.

I personally don't care what people think of my appearance or whatever, but I do try to look okay, even if it doesn't look like it at times.

I pick out a black crop top and light blue washed out jeans, black converse, and my jewellery, which include my necklace and rings. Once I'm done with my fit, I make my way to my dressing table to straighten my hair. I often don't straighten it, but I feel like it today. While straightening my hair, I softly sing along to my current favourite song Nonsense by Sabrina Carpenter that I've been listening to quietly until I hear my mom's voice from downstairs.

"Honey, get done. You need to eat before you leave." She screams.

I'm going to a party, yet she wants me to eat, she is such a parent.

Dr Melissa Beverly, my mother, is a married woman with two children, Alex, and me. Even though she works on my last nerve sometimes I still adore and love her so much.

"I'm coming." I scream back, before finishing with the last bits. When I eventually get done, I leave my room and make my way to Alex's room to get a hoodie, then I make my way to the kitchen while I text Nick to let him know that I'll be at his in fifteen.

"That belongs to Alex." My mom points it out as if I'm blind. I look down at the grey NFL hoodie that I 'borrowed' from Alex's wardrobe for tonight.

"Doesn't it look great on me." I ask as I do a little spin and jazz hands afterwards for the drama.

"Sure." She shakes her head and lets out a sigh.

Then she sets the plates of food down on the kitchen countertop and we both take our seats opposite each other and begin eating.

She's in the middle of telling me one of her many anecdotes about one her workplace when the door opens.

I don't even need to turn around to know who it is, because judging by the time, it's my dad.

"Lisa." He places his briefcase on the chair beside mine and then walks to my mom and offers her a hug and a peck.

He then turns to me as if expecting a smile with a 'oh hey dad, how was your day at work.' I don't look up from my plate as I eat faster to get out of this atmosphere.

"Lexi," he greets and pats my shoulder. Like the so perfect father he is. I mutter a greeting before he turns to my mother.

"Did you go in today?" He asks my mom as he busies himself by washing his hands to prepare a plate for himself.

"No, I took a day off." My mom answers then takes a sip from her orange juice. Seeing the image, I think about how different they are, how they contrast each other. She's everything he's not and can never be.

"Why honey?" he turns around to face her.

"I didn't feel like it, and plus I didn't have any patients that needed consultation or surgery, so here I am." She shrugs before going back to her food.

"Oh. So how was your day, at home?"

"It was lovely." She turns to me and sighs softly as if to show she's tired of the tension between my father and me.

As I'm about to say something to both of them my phone chimes and I see a text from Nick.

Nick: Where are you?

I quickly reply.

Me: Had to get dinner, on my way!!

"Thank you for the food mom, I will see you guys tonight."

"Have fun and be back by nine-thirty." She instructs after I give her cheek a peck, I then search my pockets for my car keys which I do have, thankfully then make my way out the house.

I'm about to park my car in front of Nick's house when I see him leaving his house, while his sister closes the door behind him. Talk about our timing.

"Dude, we have to stop doing that." I say as he gets into my Jeep.

"Doing what?" he asks me with a dumbfounded face. I wave my hand at him to show never mind.

"How long have you been here?" he asks me.

"Three seconds, probably." I say as I start my car to leave. During our drive, I play our playlist which has both our favourite music and artists. We have this whole montage moment, of singing along and pretending to be the people singing these songs.

And from time to time, during the singing, and driving Sam manages to sneak into my thoughts. I think back to what we spoke about today, should I even be considering it?

I mean it's crazy what he's asking, but I do have a lot of ideas with this campaign stuff and since Nick doesn't want my help isn't it only fair, I help someone who needs me? But then again this is Sam Larson for heaven's sake! And it's not like he's only asking for campaign help either, my inner voice says to me as if I've forgotten the girlfriend part of all this.

"We're here." I say once Bell's stupidly huge house comes to view.

"Here we go." I nutter quietly under my breath to myself.

Once I get a decent parking spot, I park my car and we walk the rest of the way, since it's much more crowded over at her house. As we slowly get closer to her house, we start hearing the music which is Miley Cyrus's We won't stop.

Talk about uneducated.

When we reach the front door, which is shut. I hesitate, I consider making a run for it, but then realise I wouldn't make if far.

One moment I'm trying to decide if I love Will that much, the next I'm being pulled into the house and welcomed by the heavy stench of beer and weed. Yuck.

Yeah, I definitely don't want to be here. If the police are called, I'm pretty sure a lot of these dumb dumbs will be arrested for one: underage drinking, because I'm assuming most people are my age, eighteen or even younger, and two: possession of drugs which I think is a crime, I don't really know.

"Let's go get something to drink." Nick pulls me again, towards the kitchen. Since I feel a bit nauseated by the smells and humid carbon dioxide in this place, I settle for ice cold water.

"Water?" Nick asks.

"Yeah, water, unless you want me to puke on you."

"Okay?" He tilts his head then shakes his head. "I'm going to look for Chase and everyone. You'll be okay right? Since you are drinking water and not going to puke on anyone."

"Yeah, go do that, I'll be right here, not puking on anyone." I smile.

"Weirdo." I stick out my tongue at his insult as he leaves.

And then I compose myself, taking in my surroundings I realise there is hardly anyone here. Great, he has left me here alone, so now I either have to be on my phone so that no one comes up to me or I have to look lonely, sad, and approachable. And hey look, I already have someone coming up to me, I try to focus on anything but him as he makes his way over to me.

Crap.
