Chapter 27: Smooth

As they cautiously made their way through the ravaged jungle, Cecilia felt a deep sadness descend upon her. The dragons may have been hunting them, but they were magnificent creatures she would rather see live than die.

In truth, as mighty as the beasts were, they didn’t stand a chance against Detrick and his demon. The demon was magically bound to keep Detrick alive. It made Detrick invincible.

She followed behind Detrick and the demon as they walked along. Detrick held the flaming blade at the ready in his gauntleted hand.

Mildid had been right, he did not yet understand the power he now held. He glanced back at her.

“Are you alright?” he asked.

“Yes,” she said, offering him a reassuring smile.

They needed a place they could settle down, a place where Detrick could reflect. But where could they go?

She began imagining what that life might look like. Now that she had time, the possibilities were limitless.
