Chapter 28: A Thorny Back

The nook Cecilia had found in the myriad spikes on the young dragon’s back couldn’t have worked out better. Each of them even had their own back spike to lean against as the dragon smoothly soared through the air.

When it flapped its wings, the spikes around Detrick and Cecilia would briefly fold in towards them. The first few times it happened had been a bit harrowing. But the spikes never got close enough to harm them.

Mostly, the beast glided through the air. The incredible length and configuration of the animal’s wings made them perfect for riding the winds high above the ground.

Detrick couldn’t believe he was up in the clouds. It was something he had only ever dreamt of. It was something anyone, to his knowledge, had only ever dreamt of. But he was actually riding on the back of a dragon.
