Chapter 34: A Grieving Mother

Gregory’s eyes tracked Story’s movements on the other side of the curtain of water. He couldn’t trust her anymore.

How had he been so stupid? He thought. He had been given every advantage, and he had squandered so much of it charging head first into the fight with the witch.

That witch. If he ever saw her again…

He shook the thought away. It was that kind of stupid pride that got him here in the first place. He was far too old for that sort of bull headed thinking.

But his mind flashed back to that moment again anyways. Those memories occupied his mind too much.

Hovering in the air with his mighty black wings, he had thought his imposing presence alone could have been enough to scare the witch away.

Instead, she had marched straight towards them. Humored by her bravado, he had failed to see what she held.

It was then that he had bathed her home and domain in his flames. The beautiful natural landscape had turned into a scorched ruin in an instant.
