Chapter 35: Gull’s Cove

The yellow light surrounding Detrick, Cecilia, the demon, and the baby began to fade. Detrick’s eyes were locked on the sapphire around Cecilia’s neck.

The light faded fully until it winked out inside the precious yellow stone.

Cecilia then slumped into his arms exhausted. He supported both her and the baby as he searched their surroundings.

They stood alone in a pristine green glade. He could smell salt in the air and heard the cries of gulls.

He gently settled Cecilia and the baby down in the soft grass. The baby immediately began crawling around, curious about its new surroundings.

Detrick gently brushed Cecilia’s golden hair from her face as he checked on her. She seemed at peace, her chest rising and falling with every breath.

Again, Detrick was struck by how much he loved this woman. This fearless, powerful woman. He dragged the tip of his middle finger across the bridge of her nose and down her cheek.

“Detrick,” the sword suddenly said from his back.
