Chapter 42: Daphne

They had marched the mermaid straight through the town of Gull’s Cove on their way to returning her to the ocean.

Everyone stood on the shore or the docks, watching as the mermaid’s beautiful legs transformed into her red and white fish tail. The seals—Detrick had learned they were called—barked at seeing the majestic creature swimming in the water.

And then she swam out to sea and was gone. It was something the people of Gull’s Cove would never forget.

In fact, Cilia, Detrick, and Sebastian had become so popular in town that there was little else anyone wanted to talk about besides the three of them.

When merchants came into town, they too would hear the tales. And then in turn, they would go home and tell the stories as they had heard them.

News of Cilia, Detrick, and the baby that had grown into a full sized man in less than a year, traveled a great distance.
