Chapter 41: The Ogre and the Pool

It was far larger than the first two ogres Detrick had seen. Its skin was gray, and it looked immensely strong.

Its face was full of rage.

Detrick stepped in front of Sebastian, pushing him back. He then took up his stance with his sword, preparing himself.

The ogre lunged for him. Detrick sidestepped and raised his sword to strike. But before he could bring the sword down to take the ogre’s arm off, it leapt back at an impossible speed.

The ogre stood up straight then, rubbing its stubbly cheek with one great hand. Then it began to walk back and forth, reassessing its foe.

“What is it doing?” Detrick asked the sword.

“Sizing you up,” it replied.

“You are going to die,” the ogre said suddenly. Detrick was shocked to hear the beast speak. He never would have imagined it could have talked. Its voice was deep and menacing.

‘It’s time for a test Detrick,” the sword said, flaring.
