Chapter 34

As they emerged from the chamber, Ray and Jessica found themselves back in the dimly lit corridors of the dungeon. The air felt heavy with a mix of anticipation and exhaustion. Ray's mind raced with questions, eager to delve deeper into his newfound understanding.

"Jessica, that was incredible," Ray exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement. "I could sense the merman's mana, feel its movements before they even happened. It was like we were connected on a different level."

Jessica smiled, her eyes reflecting pride and satisfaction. "That's the power of honing your mana abilities, Ray. When you properly tap into that connection, you gain insight beyond what your physical senses can perceive. It becomes a dance of anticipation and precision. Very few ever experience that level of synchronisation with mana, that's why I'm B rank so young, because I felt that, chase it and ensure today is one day of many where you experience that."

Ray's mind buzzed with possibilities. He couldn't help but envision how this heightened awareness could shape his future battles and interactions with mana-based creatures. The potential was staggering.

After this dungeon, he had so many questions he wanted fulfilled but with Barnes busy all he could do was sit and wait.

Once they left the dungeon, Jessica dropped him home after promising he would get all the money from that dungeon.

Ray entered his modest home, feeling a mixture of exhaustion and triumph. His body ached from the battles he had fought, but his heart swelled with pride at his growing accomplishments. As he closed the door behind him, he was greeted by the familiar warmth of his family.

His mother looked up from the book she was reading and beamed at her son. "Welcome back, Ray! How was your raid today?"

Ray couldn't help but grin in response. "It was intense, Mom. I faced banshees this time, and I could feel their mana, their essence. I'm getting stronger, getting better."

Sarah's eyes sparkled with pride. "I've always known you were destined for great things, Ray. I'm so proud of you and all that you've achieved."

Ray's younger sister, bounded into the room with an energy that seemed to rival his own. "Ray, Ray, did you bring back any cool treasures? Can I see?"

Ray chuckled, ruffling Lily's hair affectionately. "Not this time, Lily. But the real treasure is the knowledge and experience I gained. One day, I'll bring you something truly amazing."

Lily pouted playfully before darting off to her room, undoubtedly eager to continue her own adventures in the world of imagination. Ray turned his attention back to his mother, his expression growing serious.

"Mom, things are changing for me. I can feel it. I'm growing stronger, connecting with mana in ways I never thought possible. I want to keep pushing myself, to become even more skilled."

Sarah's face softened, her love and concern evident. "Ray, my dear, I've always supported your dreams and aspirations. If this is what you truly desire, then I believe in you. Just promise me that you'll stay safe and never lose sight of what's important."

Ray nodded, gratitude welling up within him. "I promise, Mom. I'll always remember where I come from and soon, I'll pay off our debt and move us to a bigger house."

Ray woke up the next day and headed to Silver Fang headquarters for the replanned raid with the Silver Fangs.

Ray arrived at Silver Fang headquarters, his anticipation building with each step he took. The familiar hustle and bustle of the headquarters greeted him as he made his way to the meeting room. The other Silver Fang members were already gathered, their expressions a mix of focus and determination.

Amelia stood at the front of the room, her authoritative presence commanding attention. "Welcome, everyone. Today, we have another crucial raid ahead of us. The dungeon we'll be exploring is known for its treacherous traps and formidable monsters. Recently, a team of C rank hunters were wiped out in there, as we're almost B rank hunters, this raid was specifically assigned to us to figure out what happened".

As he took his place among his teammates, he exchanged nods and encouraging smiles with his comrades.

Amelia laid out the details of the dungeon, highlighting its dangerous chambers and the potential rewards that awaited them. The mission was clear – delve into the depths, conquer the monsters, and retrieve the valuable artifacts hidden within.

The team geared up, checking their weapons, and ensuring their equipment was in optimal condition. Ray fastened the straps of his armour, the weight of it a comforting reminder of the protection it provided. He took a deep breath, steadying his nerves and channelling his focus.

Once they arrived at the dungeon, Daniel from the hunters association approached.

"I want you all to remember, this is as much an investigation as it is a raid. Gather any evidence of the previous team and anything that seems unusual. You all have been in D rank dungeons before so you know what should and shouldn't be in this one. Good luck." Daniel said solemnly before hopping in the car and driving off.

With Amelia leading the way, the Silver Fangs approached the dungeon.

As Ray got closer, he felt the cold mana of the dungeon press on his body, he felt his mana restrict and the rate of his mana dissipating increased.

"That is not a D rank dungeon" he stated firmly.

"I feel it too" James agreed. "Try and press your mana within yourself to stop it from escaping".

Ray nodded and tried this with little success, but the pressure from the dungeon slightly waned.

Everyone entered the dungeon carefully. The atmosphere inside was heavy, the air thick with an ominous energy. The dimly lit corridors twisted and turned, seemingly endless in their labyrinthine design.
