Wrecked.

They caught me so soon, how did they even know me? I thought I had played safe, with a hood on no one was supposed to have recognized me.

I heard Sarah mention my name as she confirmed my presence. It was too late, I had to answer the call at the doorstep.

"I'm coming!" I pretended as I walked down the stairs in a manner that articulated I had no idea what was going on.

"August Green..." The taller policeman with a gloaming face was the first to speak. "Last night you saved a young girl, that was great of you." he saluted not giving me time to interrupt, "Can you please tell us what happened during the incident?"

I could feel my body shake, I was shaking inconspicuously, trying to think of a lie.

"I ran..i... wwwww we, we ran." I stammered as the officer calmed me down with a tap on my shoulder, I had not expected it.

"Please have some rest, Mr August," the second officer decided to put an end to the interrogation as Sarah asked if everything was ok." August saved a girl last night, nothing is wrong only that we need August as a witness."

"Witness?" Sarah and I asked at the same minute.

"Yes, a man went missing after killing two of his accomplices, the girl you saved said that you can prove her statement."

I listened to my heart, this was a different saga. What had the girl said? But the best part was that this story had been crooked from the start.

"I don't remember sir, I only helped the girl flee." I avoided saying anything that might blow up the young girl's lie, she had already saved me.

"Saying so, I guess we shall say thank you and get going. In case you have anything, feel free to visit the post." The officers didn't linger around but give me a look that had many warnings as they left, speeding silently down the street. I finally breathed, as Lisa and Sarah supported me.

I thought of confessing to the two but my trust in them was still weak. "I'm ok." I sighed as Sarah let me rest on the couch. I looked up, they stood attention with worried faces. "Why didn't you tell us you encountered some bandits?"

I confessed that I had saved a girl from being raped, but I skipped the action that had occurred as I added that I was just lucky.

Standing up, I wondered what kind of statement had the girl laid as I hugged Sarah letting everything flow back to normal. I still had doubts that the case might flow back to me, but for now, I was safe. I reminisced everything and felt a melee surge over me, my god was true.

The noodles had been long cooked and ready to be served, thanks to Lisa who had turned off the cooker earlier. Lisa served us noodles and we all set ourselves in the living room as everyone began a chat, Sarah and Lisa had confirmed aunty ruth's death. Thanks Sarah had got over the shock though her voice trembled as she informed me of her mother's end.

We were all alone, none of Sarah's relatives had shown up, and the news was still fresh.

The talk was still on as Sarah tried getting through to one of her uncles when another knock disrupted us. Sarah volunteered to answer as I shook my head.

It was some agent guy from the bank claiming that our house was on auction due to an overdue loan that had been borrowed long ago.

"You can't do this!" Sarah raged as the grime loan agent ignored her with a loud voice letting us know we had just today to evacuate. "You can seek refuge from a relative, the bank has been lenient for a long time." the man gave in to Sarah's rage as he explained he was just doing his job.

"I can't believe this!" Sarah was stressed as she kicked the table crashing everything in her way. Her rage terrified me as well as Lisa. we (Lisa and I) tried to calm her down, pinning her to the couch as she broke down into a pitiful cry.

She was going through so much trauma at the moment, as an unemployed graduate with nothing but her mother, she had been left with nothing.

Our poor state was like a start of an endless sea as my phone lit up with a call from one of Sarah's uncles who lived in London.

I received the call as I heard Uncle Jeremy send his condolences, I explained what we were going through and Jeremy promised to come over before midnight. He then talked with Sarah, just for some minutes before the call ended. At least someone might help us out.

The Perkersons were a massive family, but they ranked low in the middle class. I didn't place high hopes in Jeremy as I excused myself, my heart was torn and all that seethed through me was a chance to avenge Aunty Ruth. My killing intent was high as I banged the door to my bedroom before giving the wall a fist that shook the house.

Uncle Jeremy arrived just before midnight after Lisa had long left, he surely kept his word.

I accompanied Sarah downstairs as Jeremy declared openly that Ruth's burial will be held at the Perkerson's ancestral home back in London. We had no rejection to that as Jeremy apologized, saying that there was not much the Perkersons could do but donate two million dollars for our sustenance. "Your mother was banished from the family after marrying that Mali UN soldier." Jeremy was sorry for us as I learnt that he was the Perkersons' patriot.

He left just barely an hour after, bravely driving in full lights through our murderous Shrubland street.

I watched the black Toyota fade into the dark as Sarah clasped my hand and leaned on me.

She had let go of all hurt and all that remained was a desire to conquer doom's fate. I let her lean on me as I suggested that we should sleep.

"The money from the family..." Sarah started as we walked up the stairs."Let's pay the foreclosure."

I remembered what the agent from the bank had said, that we can pay a foreclosure that was exactly two million dollars, but that meant giving out all that we had for a living. "I will secure a job one day and all this will be passed." Sarah closed the conversation sadly as she added.

"Why did Mum borrow such a huge amount of money?"

There was a huge journey in front of us as I held my cousin closer, cuddling her warmth before kissing the back of her head.

This was wreckage.
