Chapter 2- The start of a nice year (2): Normal school day

The scream was frighting. It was a girl.

I now have to make a choice:

-make my way towards the scream to hopefully find a group of people and not a pack of monsters ready to kill me.

Or

-stay here and wait while doing nothing at all.

While walking, I take a look at my surroundings.

The cave is so dark, I can't see anything… I wonder how many people got sucked in this dungeon. Is my whole class in here? Are Jin-Hu and Arthur here??

*SKREECHH!!

I hear a a horrible scream behind me and turn around. Nothing. Was that a monster? God, if I stayed in place, I would have been right in front of it…

At the same time, I hear footsteps in front of me—

*BAM!

"Ouch…what-"

"Oh my gosh! I-I'm so sorry! I-I wasn't looking and I-I…"

I get up and I look at the girl. She has my school uniform. Is she in my class? If so I never noticed her. Not that I care who's in my class anyway.

I help her up.

"Don't worry it's alright."

"…"

"Hey so, what's your name?…"

"M-my name is Miriam."

Miriam. She has long fluffy black hair tied into a ponytail. Her eyes are black and she looks quite like the shy type fellow. She's average height and has cute features.

"And you…what's your name?"

"Emy. Nice to meet you. Even if the conditions for this meeting are not that great."

"Umm so…"

"…"

"W-what should we do?…"

"Umm, let's just start by walking and trying to find other people here. Nothing will happen if we just stay in place."

"Alright…"

An insect like monster crushes a student's spine with its feet. Organs come flowing down their mouth. The student is still breathing while all of this takes place.

"Krukk! Please-please I dont-"

The monster eats the students head.

'Shit…what the hell is happening??'

Arthur is hiding behind a rock with other students. As they witness multiple atrocities, they have no choice but to stay silent. After all what could a bunch of grade E awakeners do? Right, absolutely nothing. They have no choice but to hide like cowards and hope from help from the outside world.

"What should we do? We can't just stand there!" Whispers one of the students.

The eye ball of the dead student rolls right next to the rock.

"Are we really just going to die here? For what???"

"Just stay calm."

The students look at Arthur, the who said those words.

"And how the fuck can you be so sure?! We're just going to die here I know that… we're all going to die in the most brutal way possible oh god…"

A girl then takes her turn talking.

"B-but they should send a rescue team…right? I mean the hunter association should have detected that a gate has appeared-"

The panicked boy then cuts her.

"How do you know they detected this dungeon?? We don't even know the grade! Some dungeons are more difficult to detect if their grades are low!"

The girl looks at her with an expression of disbelief and fear. Maybe he was right she thought. Maybe we are going to die. Maybe-

"This dungeon is between grade C and A."

The two students look at Arthur.

"And how the hell do you know that huh?? Stop saying bullshi—"

"Just look at that monster. It's huge and it's strength is way too enormous for it to be lower than grade C. We could have take it down easily if it was grade E or maybe even D. So calm down. A rescue team is probably on their way."

"…"

"…"

"We just have to wait and survive for a couple of hours."

"Just for a couple hours-? Are you crazy—"

*CLACK*

"What was that sound…?"

The sound came from the right. All three of the students looked right. Suddenly, something picked Arthur's left shoulder.

"What-"

A familiar voice whispers to him

"Hey, don't talk too loudly! The big insect thingy is a few meters away."

It was Jin-hu. Arthur had no idea how he managed to sneak past the monster close to them and even the other ones. Maybe he was close the whole time and was waiting for the perfect timing to join them. But Arthur did not really care. What was important was that he was here.

"I threw a rock over there and rushed here as soon as that insect went looking for it. I thought it wouldn't work, but it looks like it's pretty dumb."

By the way, do you know where Ems is?"

Arthur had thought about this.

"I don't know but she'll be alright. Emy's quite the tenacious type I'm not scared for her."

Now we should find a way to get out of this situation."

The insect like monster is starting to get closer and closer to them. It looks hideous. Its head has multiple eyes like that of a spider but it's head is a mentis's head. It has multiple limbs like a spider too.

'Probably a mix of a spider and a mentis.'

Thought Arthur.

The filth was about about 15 meters tall or even bigger.

'Maybe some people are still alive. We need to join them and survive as long as possible.'

'So, this is the gate?'

Anna Eun-ha stood before it. She was quite annoyed when she remembered the instructions and informations director Mitch told her.

She recalled his words.

-The grade is between C and A.

'Wow, such helpful information…'

For normal humans, a grade C monster and a grade A monster might not be that big of a difference, but hunters knew how bug the difference of strength was.

Grade C monsters and dungeons are much weaker than grade A monsters.

It was like saying: a man bought between 5 and 400 bread. Guess how many he bought and give him enough money for it but not too much.

You can send a rescue team and a hunter when a gate appears amour of nowhere, but without the grade, you don't know how many people to send or which hunter to send. The fact that they decided to send the number 2 hunter was a hit that the hunter association was hesitating about the grade of the dungeon.

"Miss Eun-ha!"

'Reporters? Damn it. How are they already here?'

"Miss Eun-ha! Please look over here!"

"Miss Anna Eun-ha, in how much time will the rescue team be ready? Do we know how many students are trapped in this dungeon??"

Reporters are annoying, she though. She choose to ignore them and stayed in front of the gate of the dungeon.

Eun-ha starts to get impatient.

"Is the rescue team ready to go in?"

"One moment please we just need to finish equipping ourselves first."

'If I hadn't been here, this rescue could have took days…'

In fact, the presence of the number 2 danker caused some pressure on the rescue team which was why they where acting faster then usual.
