Chapter 49: Spiritual Variation Undead Creature
Zhao Hai stares intently at the Undead Creature before him. He has never seen anything like it before, as he has only heard legends of zombies on Earth, which were considered mere myths. But now, he is faced with the reality of their existence.
The large alligator-like skeleton moves with a swagger in the hall, resembling a real alligator. Its body is entirely composed of bone, with a tail that acts like a steel whip, leaving scars on the wall with each swing. The walls of the fortress are made of iron ore, and its hardness is no less than that of steel.
However, what catches Zhao Hai's attention the most are the green flames flickering in the skeleton's eyes. These ghostly green flames add an eerie and terrifying element to the creature.
Comparing its size to the nearby wall, Zhao Hai estimates that this creature is at least 15 meters long, three meters tall, and if it were to stretch out its claws, it would have a width of about five meters. If it weren't for the large gate of the main fort, this creature would never have been able to enter the hall.
Zhao Hai selects a few screens and sees that there are only a few Magic Beasts and Undead Creatures in the entire fortress. Apart from the large alligator, there is only another Undead Creature, similar to an old mouse skeleton, inside the building.
After observing the screens, Zhao Hai returns to the living room and asks Green, "Grandpa Green, can you assess the combat strength of this creature?"
Green nods and replies, "This is not an Advanced-level Magic Beast. It should be a shallow water poisonous alligator that has turned into an Undead Creature. Its combat strength is not very strong, only at the level of a 4th level Magic Beast. But now, as an Undead Creature, it doesn't fear death and won't easily die. Additionally, its entire body is infused with a poisonous nature. Even a 5th level Warrior like Blockhead and Stonehead would struggle to gain the upper hand against it."
Zhao Hai nods and turns to Green and Merine, saying, "Grandpa Green, Grandma Merine, please see if you can bring this creature into the Space. I want to examine it more closely."
Merine smiles and says, "Of course, that's easy. I can do it alone." She stands up and walks out of the room, with Zhao Hai and the others following her.
Once they arrive at the storage room where the spatial ores are kept, Merine turns to Zhao Hai and says, "Young Master, open the Space."
Zhao Hai nods and creates a spatial rift. Merine recites an incantation softly, and a water-blue light emerges from the Space, resembling a giant rope. It wraps around the large alligator skeleton outside and pulls it back into the Space.
Zhao Hai stares at the swaying skeleton on the ground. He looks at the Undead Creature up close, just as he did on the screen before. The alligator skeleton is completely bound by the blue light, rendering its strongest attacks, such as claws, tail, and jaws, completely useless.
Carefully examining the skeleton, Zhao Hai realizes that if it weren't for its continuous swaying, it could be mistaken for a specimen. The absence of flesh and blood, combined with the green skeleton, gives it an unusual beauty in Space.
At this moment, a prompt from within the Space sounds, "Suspicious object detected entering the Space. Scanning... Scanning... This object appears to be a type of aggressive cyborg-like poisonous creature. Extracting toxin and reinforcing the Space's poisonous compound ingredient. The object exhibits erratic behavior due to its toxin. Implanting program... Program implantation successful. The toxin may have an impact on humans in the Space. It is recommended that the host and other humans consume Spatial Water to enhance immunity to the toxin. Please drink Spatial Water as soon as possible."
Everyone listens to the prompt from the Space in confusion. Green and the others do not understand the meaning of the prompt, which talks about cyborgs, extracting toxins, strengthening the poisonous compound ingredient, and implanting programs. These are all unfamiliar concepts to them.
While Zhao Hai seems to have some understanding, he is also uncertain about certain aspects. He knows that Space has classified this skeleton as a type of Android Undead Creature. An Android doesn't necessarily have to resemble a human. Zhao Hai recalls the diverse range of Androids on Earth, many of which were bizarre. Therefore, it is not surprising that Space categorizes this skeleton as an Android.
However, Zhao Hai is pleasantly surprised by this discovery. He had not expected that Space possessed such capabilities. From the prompt, he understands that Space is aware of the potential negative effects this creature could have on humans in its domain. That is why it extracted the toxin and developed a detoxification substance to be added to the Spatial Water. By drinking the Spatial Water, they would be protected from the toxin. However, Zhao Hai is still unsure about the meaning of implanting the program and reinforcing the Space's poisonous compound ingredient.
But Zhao Hai notices that the skeleton is no longer struggling and lies peacefully on the ground, resembling a specimen. However, the green Soul Fire in its eyes has turned red.
Upon seeing the change in the color of the Soul Fire, Zhao Hai suddenly has a realization. He also almost understands the meaning of implanting the program. It is possible that the Soul Fire of this Undead Creature has been changed to align with their group. Zhao Hai confirms this from the color of Soul Fire on the screen. The green dot represents the enemy, while the red dot represents their own side, as evidenced by Green's own status.
Zhao Hai decides to test his theory. He turns to Merine and says, "Grandma Merine, release this creature. It may have already been changed by the Space and become one of us."
Merine is taken aback, but she trusts in Green's abilities. Even if this Undead Creature hasn't become part of their group, it poses no threat to Zhao Hai as long as Green is present.
After Merine releases her magic, the alligator skeleton immediately moves towards Zhao Hai. Although it appears self-assured, it doesn't seem intimidating. Instead, it resembles a puppy seeking affection from its master.
Zhao Hai quickly commands, "Halt." He is not afraid to let the creature approach him, as he has not yet consumed the detoxification water. If it were to touch him, he would be poisoned. At the same time, he wants to see if he can control this creature.
Green anxiously watches the swaying bones, ready to take action at any moment. However, his worry is unnecessary. As soon as Zhao Hai commands, the creature immediately stops, even though it maintains a self-assured appearance. Yet, there is a hint of pitifulness about it.
Zhao Hai taps his head, unsure of how to proceed. He hadn't expected Undead Creatures to possess such extraordinary abilities, where they can retain only their bones and yet still have feelings.
Merine suddenly speaks up, her tone filled with excitement. "It's a spiritual variation Undead Creature. Young Master, we have truly obtained a treasure this time."
Zhao Hai is puzzled and asks, "Grandma Merine, what is a spiritual variation Undead Creature?"
Merine explains, "A spiritual variation Undead Creature is a rather unique and formidable type of Undead Creature. Undead Creatures, like humans, have different levels. When they first become Undead Creatures, they are at the lowest level. As they continue to exist, they become stronger. If they were once a Magic Beast in life, their attributes will slowly manifest after death. For example, if a shallow water poisonous alligator becomes an Undead Creature, initially it will only be an ordinary skeleton alligator. However, over time, it will gradually develop into a poisonous department skeleton alligator, retaining the attributes it possessed in life. This type of Undead Creature, which possesses two different attributes, is what we are seeing now. Therefore, we perceive it as a spiritual attack."
Zhao Hai nods in understanding and asks, "So, if a human-shaped Undead Creature dies, will it slowly regain its original skills?"
Merine solemnly nods in agreement. "Exactly, Young Master. If a person was a Magician in life, after becoming an Undead Creature, they will gradually transform into a Magic Undead Creature, possessing the same attributes as they had before death. Many people on the continent believe that all Undead Creatures must be of the Darkness element, but that is a misconception. Undead Creatures can have various attributes."
Zhao Hai looks at the alligator skeleton with newfound appreciation. He had never imagined that this creature could be a treasure. He knows that the energy-based attack is the most formidable on the continent, virtually impossible to defend against. It is considered the nemesis of Magicians. Unexpectedly, this creature possesses spiritual attack capabilities as well, which is an additional pleasant surprise.
