Even Mosquitoes Are Meat

Chapter 83: Even Mosquitoes Are Meat

Green's lack of concern did not mean that Zhao Hai was unconcerned. He understood that he needed to wait until his level was high enough in order to make use of the gold coins outside of Space. Currently, he was spending money from his future earnings, so he wouldn't be too worried. But for now, talking about anything else was pointless. He had to wait until he sold the radishes and had money to proceed with his next plan.

Green noticed Zhao Hai's unhappiness and suddenly smiled, saying, "Young Master, we used to rarely go to the forest to collect plant seeds. How about we go now and see if we can find some useful seeds? If possible, we won't need to buy seeds, and Space can still level up."

Zhao Hai sighed and didn't have high hopes. He knew that Ark Continent had a recorded history spanning tens of thousands of years. In all those years, their agricultural development, although not outstanding, was not lacking either. The crops they currently used were carefully selected among thousands of options. The fact that he had already replaced paddy rice with meter bamboo seeds in Space meant that the meter bamboo was superior to paddy rice. Even so, the appraisal of meter bamboo in Space wasn't very high, let alone comparing it to these outdoor wild plants. They were unlikely to have comparable effects to the agricultural crops they cultivated.

However, Zhao Hai thought to himself that even if it was just a small gain, it was still something. So he nodded and said, "Alright, Grandpa Green, this task is up to you. Or should I ask Zhao Qian to assist you?"

Green shook his head and replied, "No need, I'll be fine. If Zhao Qian were to accompany me, people might find it strange. Even if they were to inspect the radishes we bought, we could still give an excuse."

Zhao Hai hadn't considered that point, so he nodded and said, "Alright then, you take care of it. But Grandpa Green, you must be careful. Check the nearby mountains, as there might be people who would try to harm us by poisoning. We should be prepared for such situations."

Green smiled and reassured him, "Young Master, don't worry. I'll be careful. I'll bring some dry rations and water with me. If necessary, I can rely on the Spatial Water to buy some time even if someone tries to poison me. I won't go too far either. If needed, I'll send an Undead Creature to follow me. If anything happens, you can quickly bring me back using the Undead Creature's fast speed."

Green added, "But I don't think that would be necessary. I believe I can handle it."

Zhao Hai shook his head and said, "No, I'll have Alien accompany you. Alien has a large space within its body. If you find anything valuable, you can have Alien store it directly. Otherwise, you'll have to carry everything yourself, and it might not fit."

Green agreed after giving it some thought. "You're right. Alien can listen to me, right?"

Zhao Hai smiled and replied, "No problem. Since the last level up, I've noticed that Alien has become more intelligent. Apart from not being able to speak, I feel like it's not much different from an ordinary person. Don't worry."

Satisfied, Green said, "Alright then, I'll go now."

Zhao Hai smiled and said, "Take care and don't worry. After all, those things can't escape from the mountains. There's not much happening near the manor, and we can only wait until work is finished before taking action. Take a break at the manor for now."

Green smiled back. Zhao Hai's words were true. It was safe in Stony Mountain these days. Very few people wanted to provoke them, especially with Zhao Hai's reputation as a Dark Magician. No one wanted to mess with a Dark Magician.

Just as they were about to enter the manor, Merine and the others arrived. It was lunchtime, and Merine invited Zhao Hai and Green to have lunch.

Merine eagerly asked Green, "How did it go? Did it work?"

Zhao Hai didn't want her to worry, so he forced a smile and said, "It worked. Don't worry."

Green understood Zhao Hai's intention and didn't say anything. Instead, he smiled and said, "I plan to explore the surrounding mountains in the next couple of days and see if I can find any useful plants. This way, Young Master's Space can level up further. The current land in Young Master's Space covers 18 mu, and it will only increase in the future."

Merine was delighted to hear Green's plans. In their eyes, the more land they had, the more money they could make. This meant that the future of the Buda Family was promising.

Little did they know about the process of Space leveling up and the ability to clear Ranch. Zhao Hai hadn't told them yet, as he wanted to complete those matters first before revealing them to others.

After they finished their meal, the people in the manor were busy with their tasks. The slaves no longer needed to stand guard and were quite content. Inside the Space, they had everything they needed and were even taught how to read. They enjoyed their days, thinking that this was the life of a noble.

These slaves were different from ordinary people. They had received a different kind of education, one that brainwashed them from birth into thinking that their lords and masters were everything to them. This education began from a young age and left them completely enslaved mentally.

The reason why the ruling class of the continent could maintain their control for thousands of years was due to their ability to suppress large-scale slave rebellions. Unfortunately, the suppression cost a significant amount of money. The nobles discovered that it was more cost-effective to educate slaves from childhood to ensure their lifelong servitude. The money spent on this education was still less than the cost of suppressing slave revolts.

Any civilization that had existed for tens of thousands of years wasn't simple, and the ruling class had their reasons for maintaining power. They wouldn't have been able to control the continent for so long if they didn't have effective methods.

Due to these factors, when Green purchased these slaves, their minds had already been conditioned to think like slaves. But for the chrysanthemum and settled families, who were former commoners, it was different. They hadn't been subjected to this kind of indoctrination from birth. However, their parents had been slaves, so they were exposed to it from an early age. This indoctrination was insidious, as it could turn a person into a slave for their entire life, starting with the first generation and continuing for generations to come.

Because of these reasons, Zhao Hai tried to improve the lives of these slaves by providing them with a comfortable lifestyle. Although they were not yet accustomed to it, they were starting to enjoy the benefits. Zhao Hai understood that changing their mindset would take time, so for now, he focused on teaching them to read and helping them understand the truth.

Zhao Hai never expected that he would be able to change the entire world one day. Even if such a thought crossed his mind, it quickly vanished. He knew his limitations. Although he had the Farm as an advantage, he was just an ordinary person. Even after arriving in this world, he hadn't become ambitious enough to change the world. Especially after learning that this world had a history spanning tens of thousands of years, he realized the enormity of the task. For tens of thousands of years, this world had been a society based on slavery, which indicated the power and ruthlessness of the ruling elite.

At present, Zhao Hai's main goal was to live comfortably. As someone born in modern-day China, he wasn't accustomed to ruling over slaves. He set a condition: as long as they worked hard, they would be rewarded with freedom.

Black Wasteland was his domain, and he treated it as his private property. However, for now, no one saw any value in his property. In the eyes of the continent's nobles, Black Wasteland was just a barren land. But Zhao Hai knew that once he improved the land there, those seemingly ordinary stones would turn into precious gems, the kind that people would fight over.

To protect his treasure, he needed strength. Although he was currently quite powerful, he wasn't strong enough. If he could clear the Ranch, all the magical beasts on the continent would become his subordinates. Then, no one would dare to provoke him.
