Chapter 32: Baiting Tactic

“Why can’t I come with you?”

My father looked up from his computer and gave me that slightly indulgent smile he always seemed to wear when he looked at me. That patient, condescending sort of smile one wore when they were speaking to children.

I had realized lately that though I loved my father dearly, I quite hated that smile.

“It’s dangerous,” he said simply.

“But you said it was just sport hunting.”

“Let me amend that statement then. It’s too dangerous for YOU.”

“Well, then why does Erik get to go?”

My father sighed and returned his attention to the screen. “Your brother is the future Alpha of the pack. His attendance is mandatory. I shouldn’t need to explain this to you, Sunny,” my father said, not a trace of frustration in his voice.

I didn't quite care about the rules just then, and there weren't any that said I wasn't allowed to attend. This was just another example of my father being overprotective.
