Chapter 24: The Will of the Future King

Kaida froze as the lovers’ gazes fell upon him, eyes shifting about, worrying he had said something he was not meant to.

“Did you know nothing of your father’s condition, Your Highness?”

“Master Kaida, I know very little of my father’s circumstances, beyond the fact he tried to kill me in my sleep with a magic knife,” Eris hissed. He bristled even, his pupils constricting into slits as they rested on the smaller dragon. “You mean to tell me the world knows of my father’s fall from grace and I know nothing of it?”

“Not… the whole world, Your Highness. Just those of us in the community who share the Dragonheart,” the old dragon blustered, shrinking somewhat in Eris’ presence. An aura of dread had begun to roil off the prince, a familiar one to Marion. “Sources state that your father has… fallen, Your Highness. That he has become a daemon himself in pursuit of keeping his power and… even potentially resurrecting your mother.”
