Marion did not have time to process Eris’ warning, though the fight had only just begun. The walls shook, the hollowing shriek shaking the foundations around them. What machinations had Agis unleashed? What demons had he made his deals with? A heavy noise like a drumbeat echoed in the hall as the rain and wind whistled through the broken windows. It couldn’t be more than a hundred ashen-kin, they hoped.
The rumble of the drumbeat only got louder. Nearer. The sconces shook on the walls, before even the glass on them shattered too. The fixtures rattled like skeletons, before they too clattered to the tile floors.
“Eris…” Marion spoke softly, moving to place the prince behind them. “Eris, whatever happens, I want you to run if we can’t handle it.”
“You’re insane,” he sputtered. “I won’t leave you alone to do this.”
